Front Shocks

Bought me a 1987 F-150 4X4 today and was pricing some Monroe Gas Magnums or Monroe Sensa Tracs and noticed the front end has dual shocks on each side.
Is this unusual because my old 88 F-250 had single shocks on the front ?

Older F-150's had the Quad shock option for the front end. My 92's don't have it. I think for the 250's and the 350 they had a different suspension system that didn't include the quad shock option.

What was the purpose in the "Quad Shock" set up besides costing us more $$$ ?
Instead of $200.00 for a set of 4, now it is $300.00 for a set of 6 !

It was part of a handling package I believe. I have the quad shocks on my Bronco.

Ok, thanks guys but i have one more question about the exhaust !
It needs new tailpipes and it has a 351 H.O. and the pipes appear to run out on each side behind the tires, but should it have the double pipes running together on the passenger side ?

It really personal preference. Factory only had a single exhaust. Alot of people go with duals. Where they exit is up to you or the exhaust shop.
