I was sifting through ebay drivel and stumbled upon that auction. That and I noticed my block heater o-ring is leaking.

Is that one a direct replacement for the OEM block heater?

Mechelement, I know you've got an 86 and don't have the early block...just info for anybody who may have an early casting block and find your thread in a search

The early 6.9 blocks are known to crack around the block heater. I used the 1,500 watt tank-type heater linked here on my '65. It circulates the coolant thru the engine. It has its own thermostat. It will melt the snow right off the hood and the windshield will be defrosted instantly on a cold morning. I like it a lot, and I think I'll install one on my IDI if mine ever starts hard in the cold. I haven't yet plugged it in overnight in my 2 years of ownership.
