I found that the internal tube in the fill assemby was disconnected from where it should have been. The prior owner reported the slow fill problem, he had taken it to Ford and they told him there was nothing to be done. I removed the assembly, cut it open to see that it was a factory defect. I ordered a fill assembly from Rock Auto, installed, fixed.
I hope nobody trys that shop-vac trick with a gasoline engine. Fumes into a shop-vac would make one eligible for a Darwin award.
I was thinking the same thing. A live shop vac SUCKING gas fumes.... Not a good idea. I reread the sentences five times because I was thinking "he had to at least have it on reverse (blowing out) trying to do something, ANYTHING lol"
