Don't drink the water
One of my favorite spots is straight up that mountain.
Somewhere up on the side of that mountain is a little sign that says "Sea Level". I can't make it out in Sean's photo, but it's there.

Marc, how do you get up to the top of that mountain? Hike?
I'd bet the view is spectacular from up there, but I'm in no shape any more to make THAT trek. Walking out on to the flat is about all I can accomplish nowadays.
Jim, Badwater and Mt. Whitney are, yes, mere miles apart (about eighty), but Denali (McKinley), in Alaska, is North America's highest point. There is no surface land in Alaska that's below sea level, either.
just checked with Google maps about the location of Scotty's Castle and it is interesting that it is due east of here about 100 miles. Yet, if I want to go there, I have to drive north or south as there are no roads that go over the mountains here.
Pop, yeah, my bad, I should have said Continental US< I forgot about Mc Kinley in Alaska,
