Need you guys opinion on which is safer for snow...

Hey, this weekend we're going up the local mountain and as of today they got hit with a good snow storm. Anyways I have a 2010 escape 2wd stock, and a 96 f150 2wd, lifted with 33inch wranglers. I know that the escape "should" be better but was just wondering what you guys think. I will be using chains on the escape of course. Thanks for the feed back.

How wide are the 33's ?? Ground clearance is always nice in snow but width is your enemy. I have a toyo Camry that will pass my F-250 4x4 in the snow then out brake it 4 to 1 but, I'm in MA 3 inches of snow to me is a dusting not so much for a guy in CA ...

What he said. Or if you must go this weekend, take the Escape - if you wreck it insurance should cover it pretty good, not so much the case with older trucks like your '96 F150...

I have to respectfully disagree. I could get our rear wheel drive car (with 100lbs. in the trunk & snowtires) up to our house when no front wheel drives could make it up. FWD loses weight over the drive wheels when going up hill, where RWD gets weight added to the drive axle. The steeper the hill, the better RWD is vs. FWD. I much prefer RWD handling in all conditions to FWD. Put a few hundred pounds in the F150 and drive cautiously.

Thanks for input. We do have to go this weekend, unfortunately. I figured the escape would be better but me not living where it snows i wasnt sure if the bigger, heavier truck with good tires may have had some kind of advantage. Should be fun though, the escape really liked to float on the snow last time we got caught in it. Thanks for the help guys.

The escape is going to be far better in the snow than the F-150, and it's not even close. FWD is almost always better in the snow than RWD. I've driven plenty of both in the snow. Before you leave carefully inspect your chains to make sure they're in good shape. And don't drive too fast with them on, either. 25 or 30 is about the max.

What Andy here said.

Be careful. We don't want to hear about you all getting hurt.
