7.3 teardown and rebuild: custom build up

this is my engine stand used for our powerstroke and IDI engines..... these engines are very very heavy dressed.... much heavier than any gasser ive delt with (302,351M, 400) if the stand your looking at doesn't look at least as heavy as this one i would kinda shy away. but some guys have had others work just fine
just remember..... SAFETY IS #1
doesn't do you any good to do all the work getting it out then end up getting hurt and not be able to enjoy your life anymore.

well you may check with ford on the works kit if they are cheaper than international.... both should be the same product because they both have to be tied to international in some way because international made the engine and ford bought them from international...... id try to stick with one of the two (ford or international)'s works kit because it comes with everything down to new pistons and rings.... all bearings should be included as well, along with the gaskets
and just from a quick search pistons on orielly site are 118 dollars a piece...... so 118x8=944 before tax..... that doesn't include the rings.

Well I didn't know there aren't any safety requiremets on something that is "rated" to hold a certain weight... but yeah be safe for sure.
The cams can be purchased from a user here called TypeFour. He has a grinder(or regrinder, not sure) that makes some solid torque cams, i guess that same guy made them for these trucks for the West coast logging roads years ago also.
Last I read they are about $190 with core deposit, and bring the torque into play about 200 rpm's sooner as well as more power throughout. Many IDI vets say the cam is the weak point on these engies.
You can read about it for yourself at https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...-cam-typ4.html
Great write-up about the "talk around town" concerning the cam. And someday we might actually get dyno numbers! haha

what did you come up with for the rebuild kit? or have you not got it yet.... also how did you get a 2000lb stand from autozone.... i called and tried to get one from them and they said the only had a 1000lb and that was all they could get when i bought mine last october 2010 i like doing business with autozone much more than orielly at least back where i live during the summer... if i have to do any business with them cause autozone can't get the parts (motorcraft parts) i try to go the next town over and do it thats how much i hate the guys at the one in town.....
