1999 Ford e-350 Intake Question

Hello,

I recently purchased a 1999 ford e-350 super duty van for my company, and upon removing the dog house, I seen something rather suspicious. I don't quite know how to describe it, so I was wondering if anyone had an idea of what it may be. Please see pictures below as taken from the rear of the engine. Click on Pictures for Full Size

Thank you very much for your time
Sincerely

the heads are reversible, they is not a difference in the right and left side. look at the front of the other head and you will see what it is used for. "one head fits all" I think it is a coolant crossover port on the other head.

I bought rebuilt heads for mine and after installing them I realized I had oil galley plugs on the timing cover side and open holes on the back side, bought some plugs and pulled the other ones out and it runs like a champ.
