Head Swap and casting numbers
Hello all, I finally checked my engine castings numbers: EBP-6015-L. Vin: F10J8R14050. From research on this forum, I think this is the original 223 engine for my 1958 f100. What does the L stand for?
I will need to replace the head gasket, and while the head is off, I have been thinking of swapping it with one for sale locally that has allegedly been rebuilt with hardened seats, and which has a few miles on it.
Do head swaps usually work out? What should I look for when examining this head? I thought I'd bring a head gasket with me to make sure it fits right? Is there a way to make sure the seats have been hardened. It's selling for 200 bucks, but I think that it's flexible.
Thanks!

The newer one isn't all that new--I think 1960, so two years newer, but I haven't checked the casting numbers on it yet. Is there a way to tell if it was properly machined or machined at all--in case the guy who has it is misinformed? Thanks,
What type of sealer do you recommend for head gaskets? Do you recommend chasing the threads before torquing down?
