1996 Ford F-250 HD SUPERCAB
looks like a 4x4 to me too.(isn't that clearly a front axle i see?)

don't limit your searches.if people want too much for old beaters, then think newer or be willing to travel.
there's sure nothing wrong about getting into a 7.3l PSD 4x4.

sometimes it's just a matter of saving that extra 500-1000 dollars that can put ya so much further ahead, that it's just worth it,to go without for a while longer if you can.
if you don't think an old idi truck wont need 5-1k put into her soon, then you haven't bought many old vehicles.that's why it makes no sense to pay so much for such old trucks to start with.
replaced parts with proof of purchase, carfax etc.(classic resto's are in a whole other field) sure.that can change all that.not without them though.

I called on the red IDI last week just to see if they even had it still. The guy said they sold it and they got $2600 + TTL.

The listing for the stroke is expired or deleted. I can't imagine it was for sale for very long.

eaton iv never seen anyone have so much trouble finding an old truck before.
i see what your basic trouble is.you want more truck than your ready to pay for yet.
keep saving up man,so you can buy the truck you want to start with.
good thing about these (excuse me for a minute while i throw a tantrum lol) FRIGGING,GOOD FOR NOTHING,ECONOMY KILLING,OUTRAGEOUS,GREEDY FUEL PRICES (ok im done now lol sorry) is it will just keep bringing down the value of trucks in general.bad time to sell (or smart time, depending on ones needs) but great time to buy (as long as your ready to bend over at the pump.)

lets see here.what about this one?
http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/2261724408.html

ahh,so,so.maybe he'd take 1500-2k though?
http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/ctd/2261161129.html

good looking PSD priced to sell;
http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/cto/2255307946.html

just an example of fuel prices killing truck resale value.a '99 super duty(2nd gen 7.3l) in your price range now;
http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/2225310944.html

lots and lots to truck to look at.i could keep going.you'll find one with your name on it.don't settle.keep riding out this fuel economy crisis if ya have too.you'll get one priced to make ya smile eventually.

Joe, my biggest obstacle is finding time in the day to meet sellers. I work 9-6 M-F so that leaves me with the weekend to see trucks. I could look at them at night but it won't be until the following morning until I find out what I bought. I have had more than several fantastic looking trucks slip through my fingers because they sell in a matter of hours. I like the one for $6500 but the bank account says no.

I am probably being too picky as well but even if I make an offer, people don't want to budge. If it is under $3000 and has no major issues, I have no problem offering them cash on the spot. I want something that won't leave me stranded this summer. I may just have to save another grand.

Oh, FORDF250HDXLT you make a good point. Fuel is going to be right at about $1000 round trip and that is if the prices don't go up any more. That's why I need to get about 20MPG or I am no better off than driving a gas job. The diesel at 20MPG/15MPG towing is cheaper than a gasser at 15MPG/10MPG towing.

FORDF250HDXLT,

I am looking for something exactly like the one you have there in Houston. Unfortunately, it is about a 600 mile/10 hour round trip for me. I would need to see that one on a Saturday and if I buy it, I have to also rent a tow dolly for my car. I don't know anyone who has 10 hours to chauffeur me to pickup a truck in Houston.

I'll have to call on the others there. I called on a 93 F250 turbo IDI with about 300K that had "engine problems" earlier today. I didn't get an answer but when he called me back, he said the buyer was counting out the $1500 when I called. He said the engine problems were something to do with the fuel system. I would have bought it for $1500 and just replaced the whole fuel system in it.

Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - Garage Fuel Economy

id like to know where all the people claiming 20/15 are,and why they are not showing us their records.
i have a feeling its because those claiming those kind of #'s are talking "peaks" only, and they're not sharing the 10-15 mpg tank calculations when their not just driving the truck around like a car.
though i think your gas fuel economy in the HD trucks is also a bit optimistic,so your probably close still in the relationship between the gas and oil burner anyway.

This just popped up and it is not too far away from me. I think I can get there before the sun goes down. I have some laundry to finish but I called the guy and he is available tonight. Price seems reasonable if everything looks good. He said the A/C needs a charge.

im not sure how texas is on trucks but i always pictured it as truck country especially back in the late 80's and 90's. so i figured the supply would drive the price down. 1950 is still a little high for a 2wd. even with the 160,000 mile engine. and its automatic. also their appears to be a dent about halfway up just behind the door on the bed passenger side. id shoot 1200 maybe seein is thats about whats the engine is worth if its properly maintained if the engine needs work then ur lookin about 700. im in missouri though.

i think that's a pretty nice looking 2wd xlt.
kelly puts her at about 2500 book in "good" shape.
he's asking 500$+ under as is.
definitely worth an inspection.

edit,
that's interesting.it appears to be an xlt with power window/lock and carpet delete i guess.
anyway, can't wait to find out what you find out lol.
looks like you might have finally found the one for you.

where did you get that it was a xlt? i didn't see any indicators.... it doesn't even have the chrome grill or "flashy" bumper..... (we have a 1989, and 1990 F150 XLT and 1995 F250 XLT and all came with chrome grills and more "flashy" bumpers)

well,it's an XLT with a few deletes,or a XL with extra's i guess?
the first thing i see is the interior trim.see how that's silver and not black? the center pieces? like under the headlight **** and on the dash.
the XLT's are silver.i had a '96 "XL" and that trim was black there.

i don't "think" an "XL" would have a tilt wheel and cruise.
though a guy could order a truck anyway he wanted i suppose.with that silver trim i see, tilt wheel/cruise control,im thinking XLT with deletes?
but your right.the bumper lacks the black trim molding.however these bumpers are so crappy on these years trucks (they bend so easy) that might just be a replacement? i bent two on my '96.replaced the first one,and lived with the twisted up second one.

really,i dunno what it is.it does have a few XLT features anyway lol.
too bad the pics were not better.maybe he's gunna bring her home and we can see some pics soon anyway.

edit,
and your right.a black grill/headlight bezels doesn't = xlt either.good point.
