2012 f350 service truck.

have 88,000 on my service truck and weight is 12000lbs often. Avg around 10.5mpg. fuel mileage varies a little with weight. 4.10 gearing. My 6.2 has done something none of my diesels have ever done. No engine problems and stayed away from the dealer the first 88,000 miles. non of my diesels have done this ford chevy dodge. service truck rolling means making some money. truck in shop and not making much money. Been a good truck. the only problem is my trac bar up front doesn't like dirt road and weight. Easy fix but have replaced the ball joint at axle 3 times now. brakes and suspension repairs/shocks is about the only problem. another service truck has lost a rear axle and was warranty repair/replace.

I hope you don't get into an accident, because a lawyer will make mincemeat out of you......
Those ratings are there STRICTLY for power-train protection and warranty and NOT safety / DOT. No lawyer can find fault with that.

What the DOT checks for are your axle and tire weights. Since brakes are always engineered for a given axle rating, no separate ratings are needed.

You can take any F350 DRW to your local DOT office and register it for 36,000 lbs GCWR, and be perfectly legal at every single DOT scale in just about every State. Tens of thousands of hot shot haulers do it day in day out.

Got a 2013 F350 CC Dually with the 6.2L Gas and 4.30 limited slip rear end which has just over 9k on the clock now. To date the 6.2L has performed flawlessly. It has plenty of power to tow my 34' 14k lb gooseneck horse trailer. I just returned from a 1,550 mile trip from Louisiana to Tulsa Oklahoma pulling the above trailer - avg mpg for the entire trip was 8.9 mpg with 2/3 of the miles pulling the trailer - just pulling the trailer was 7.8 mpg; without the trailer was 13.0 mpg - all hand calculated - truck computer showed .4 mpg higher. I was pulling at the posted speed limits which was for the most part either 70 or 75 mph. Last year, this exact same trip with the F250 6.0 PSD with the same trailer yielded 12.7 avg mpg for the entire trip. So I'm very satisfied with the gas engine and don't regret not getting a diesel again - just too many issues with them and I don't pull often enough to justify the diesel. Based on how I use this truck, I calculated it was going to take me over 125k miles just to breakeven on extra cost of operating the gas vs the initial cost and operating costs of the diesel, assuming no major maintenance issues with either engine.

'14 ext cab 4x4 auto, 250 on clock 3.73 gears, the 1st tank (what the dealer filled it with) got me 11.5, with 75% hwy/25% town.
I know its not got enough miles on it to tell anything, but I figured the dealer filled it with water, I filled er up with 89 octane. So I think I should get better this next tank after reading what others are getting with more miles on the truck...

I am happy with the 6.2, I have gotten into it a few times and the truck seems to have plenty of power. I am going to buy a travel trailer later on and I do not think I will have any problem pulling what I want with this truck. It already gets better mileage then the 99 v10 (same set up) as it only got 10mpg in N rolling down a hill...but it would pull a house if you could hook it....

I will post later on if my mileage changes, oh and this was hand figured, don't trust the dash...

Ive got 3500 on my '13 f250 and I spend most of my trips going up and down hills (2500-- 5000 ft) mostly averages 12.5 while empty. When on the flat the lie-o-meter gave me 18 mpg for a 20 mile stretch-- empty not wind. Put tonneau on last weekend, curious if any difference.

We will see about your first tank of "free" gas.

I just happened to be at the local station tanking up on E85 and in swings the salesman to top off a flex fuel car. Yessir, the price (2.75) would look better to me also just to get a gas gauge showing full.

yeah, it was the full tank that the truck came with since it was running on fumes when I 1st test drove it....

I just figured they had a tank out back that was funneled from the urinals in the men's bathroom....

I have almost 19,000 miles. I used to get 13-15. Last few tanks have been 8-12.

Appointment at dealer Wednesday to check thermostat and gas mileage. Hopping for the best. Want my 190+ degree heat back, and warm up less diesel like.

Hey Wyoming 4x4 I'm looking at buying a crew cab15 350 with 4.30s with the 6.2. I'm gonna pull bed off and put bale bed on it. With tools and all,bed will weigh in around 2800 lbs. I'm curious about what kinda mileage I'm gonna get. Are you primarily on dirt roads or a mix of dirt and pavement? My truck will be a ranch truck 80% pasture driving and gravel roads. Thanks

I got my first real world mileage test yesterday with my 6.2.

It's a 2011 F250 cc swb 2wd with the 3.73's and a topper.
It has 106K miles.
I did this test without any cruise control to see what the best it could get was.

I topped it off and zeroed the dash out and then drove a loop test for a total of 83 miles on 2 lane roads (55 mph limit). I mostly drove 55-59 mph and a few red lights.

Went back to the same pump and topped it off the same.

The dash display said 18.4 mpg.
I put in 4.81 gallons so my actual number was 17.2 mpg.

I am pleased with that. I was fearful it would be 14-15.

I do believe it would get worst mileage @ 70 mph.
Maybe someday I can do an interstate loop test @ 70 mph and see.

edit; I forgot to add that I had it in auto shift mode the whole trip, so I have not tested the truck with the trans in the manual shift mode yet.

Thats impressive figures for a motor that has 106K.

My truck 2014 250 SCLB 4x4 6.2 3:73 with 6000 miles..

Last sunday went for a drive in the mountains with an empty bed right after a fillup. Drove pretty close to 250 miles for the day mostly between 50 to 65 with a few stops. Uphill, downhill most of the time in elevations ranging from 6500 to 10500. To my surprise the ODO mpg displayed 17.4 and its usually optimistic by about .5 mpg.

Love this motor and I dont miss diesel

17.4 with your 4wd sounds decent.

My lie-o-meter was off over 1 mpg, but I was happy to see the decent mileage on my 6.2. (considering how heavy the truck is)
Granted, the truck was empty and it did not idle much, but I wanted to see what I could do with it-highway wise.

I bought the truck mostly as a back up to my dually and I debated between a 2013 F-150 x-cab with the 5.0 and an x-cab SD gasser.

I just wasn't comfortable with the thought of pulling a 8K lb. 24ft enclosed with the 1/2 ton so I went with the SD.

So far, so good.
Just wondering about those 106K mile spark plugs. I'm afraid to change anything because it runs so well.

I never thought I'd get excited to see the mpg go up by a tenth. 1800 miles. So far I like the 6.2. Short trips, winter blend gas, and hubs locked. Real mpg so far is 11.7 - 12.
