dirty fingernails, proud or embarrased of them?

they and the fact that my hands are usually covered in dirt and grease ground in stains , are a sign of pride to me , as well as the discoloured nails from smashing them whilst working on the vehicles . i do however go too lengths to make sure Reese , my granddaughter / shadow , keeps her hands etc. clean as it just doesn't seem right for her to be walking around with hands that look like they've been beaten too death ................

The nitrile gloves are what I use, actually.I'm an electrician, and since I've done quite a bit of clean-room work in Silicon Valley, they are plentiful.I'm no fan of wearing the complete bunny-suits ,trying to do work in the fabs, though.

I have to wear different types of rubber gloves every single day in my job. Ironically, I hate wearing gloves to do mechanic work. They always tear (I'm so glad human beings don't have too many sharp corners). So I've become the master of doing what it takes to clean my fingernails, which sometimes means bringing the blood with a knife. GoJo (?spelling) is good stuff. That orange stuff--sucks in my opinion. A good stiff scrub brush (and not one of those wimpy little fingernail brushes) and Dawn is the trick.

I agree with ibuzzard. I was licking my fingers while eating and after working on my truck; they tasted like chicken. It so happens I was eating KFC.
However, do not eat Cheetos after working on your truck; whole different flavor.

My time is split at work between a rather conservative office invironment and construction sites so I need to be fairly presentable. I do keep some nitril gloves around but mainly use them for when I have to do any type of carburetor or gas work, other than that I can't hardly stand to wear gloves. At the end of the day I'll use a pretty stiff nail brush and scrub like the dickens. Usually once in the sink before dinner and then again in the shower.
I worked as a mechanic for numerous years, it would take a weeks vacation for my hands to finally get clean (and yes, doing dishes really helps)
