2011 3.7 Gas Mileage
#32
Just curious what you guys are getting now that you have some miles on? I was undecided to jump back up to the Moose F150 or stick with the Ranger, on August 4th I ordered a new 2011 Ranger 4x2 Supercab 4.0V6 5speed with the 3.55 rear gear. I have 900 miles on it now and am getting 24.4 mpg highway and 19-20 city. Would have been nice to be able to get the 3.7V6 in my Ranger if you guys are getting better MPG in the F150.

I got out of my 2010 Ranger 2.3/M5 and into the new F150. I liked the Ranger for mileage(29 highway) and it towed my boat OK. Problem came when pulling the boat out of a steep ramp. Figured I was asking a bit much of the engine/clutch combo.
My first tank on the 3.7 got 18.5mpg with mostly suburb driving(85%) hand calculated. What little highway I did, comp showed 23.5mpg at 65mph. Happy so far.

3.7 mileage
I have a 4x4 supercab with 3.73 gears.
by computer (and it seems very close to gallons/miles, I quit after a few tanks, my mustang is over 1.2 mpg off, but the truck computer comes within .2mpg so...) 8,300 miles, average is 18.3, some highway, some city, all around 18.3. Note that I test drove this truck back when I wasn't going to buy it (opps) and drove the *** out of it to see what the 3.7 would do. that is still on the original trip calculator too, that was showing 12.1 mpg when I bought it, and it had been a test driver a while.
On the highway at 55 on a cement (not blacktop) highway it gets 26.1 mpg.
at 66-67 on blacktop it's around 20, at 70 it drops to 18.8.
I also have a mustang with the 3.7, and I believe both vehicles blow fuel out the tail pipe at idle when waiting for a light. City mileage is terrible in any stop and go.
Mustang gets 24 city 30-31 highway if you baby it for the curious. I really like the engine and for a vehicle this size... to bad they wouldn't put it into the ranger... would have been a whole new ball game for that vehicle.

Curious as to how your trucks mpg is now after two years.
My 2011 Ranger with the 4.0 V6 and 27K miles after two years has dropped off a little. Warm weather highway MPG is still 23-24 but cold weather can drop below 20.
My hand calculated MPG over 27K miles is between 20 and 21MPG mostly highway. Few thousand towing a 3K# tent camper.

I've had mine since September 2012, and l've got 33,000kms (20,500miles). I work out every tank of gas, and my life time average is about 18.5 US MPG. That includes every single mile that l have driven divided by the amount of fuel that l have used. So considering that in that number is city, stop and go, and highway driving, l'm very happy with that.

3.7 v6 4x2 s.crew
i just bought a 2013 xlt 4 door 3.7 liter with 20k miles on it for 25k. my fuel readout says im only getting an average of 12.5-8 mpg. thats about 75% city driving and 25% congested hiway traffic. i think the computer is wrong. i'm getting the same 2.25 weeks of driving per tank full as i was getting in my '95 4cyl. 5 speed. the read out bothers me but the gas gauge needle doesnt lie so i'm good. years ago i had a '68 amx ford 390ci, this 3.7L v6 is by far the faster engine, the most powerful i've ever owned. i was thinking of moding the engine but i dont know how i can improve on it enough to make it a reasonable purchase. i love this truck.
