cylinder 2 misfire 97 expedition 4.6L

i dont know if there is already a post in the forums about this issue, there are 502 pages so it would take about 6 days to read them all. here is my question:

i have had a check engine light for some time. i changed my plugs and wires this past weekend and my check engine light went away. was on my way to emissions this morning, first time driving further then a 1/4 mile since changing plugs and wires, and check engine light came back on. had it checked and got a misfire code for cyl 2. changed out the coil pack and the #2 plug (again) and still getting engine light. now looking into the possibility of it being a fuel injector. does anyone have any insight on alternatives to fuel injectors or a way to test them so i am not buying unnecessary parts left and right?

some symptoms are:

rough idle
occasional bogging down in idle (does not shut of the engine, just slows down rpm's)
hesitation on acceleration
greater power loss under greater load
unpredictable exhaust popping (not a backfire, just like it is choking)

your help is much appreciated.

thanks.

Swap it with another cylinder and see if the code moves to the new cylinder along with the injector.

And while your in there, swap the plug with cylinder #1 and the coil with cylinder #3 and the injector with cylinder #4. (Wait! Does this thing have coil-on-plug? If it has coil packs switch them from left to right and swap out the sparkplug wire with another cylinder that is about the same length.)

Well, all I was trying to do is be sure the new coil and plug were not at fault. You know - while he was right there.

And post #1 didn't sound like the sparkplug wire was swapped just in case the wire was at fault.

BTW tkobe, I had a Town Car in the shop a few months ago with coil-on-plug that had a cylinder #2 misfire. After swapping parts (coils, springs, plugs, and injectors) around cyl #2 still misfired. Finally tracked it down to some green growth on pin #104 of the 104-pin connector at the PCM. This is the circuit that the PCM uses to pull the #2 injector to ground and it was struggling to hold the injector open for the full duty cycle. After cleaning the connection all was good.
