Yeah i think its a good combo , and thats what the engine tuner told me when i had a chip burned for it , he said its a little less than the mustangs on the HP side , but makes up more than enough on the TQ side , thats the intake difference...

just wondering, did you do any porting to it? from the looks of it, your truck was a MAF 302 from the factory (did you retain it)? and when you had your chip burnt, was it a mail-order chip? who did it? how'd they do? im just tryin to gather as much info as i can before i pull the trigger on a particular motor/computer setup for my build.

No i didn't do any porting on the intake , my truck was factory MAF , i went to a 61mm dual bbk TB , and switched to a Pro M 80mm meter , i live in florida , had a mustang race shop burn a chip on the dyno , they just make dyno runs finding out what works best with timing curve , AF ratio , so on , if its an auto they can change and set shift points , line pressure , they also can change the rev and speedlimiters , and you can use a lower thermostate if you wan't , they do it with a tuner then burn it on to a chip , cost me 600 , but i think its worth ever penny....

yea this is what i plan to do, regardless of what i choose (surely not goin obdII, too pricey). but i was just wonderin if you had success with mail order chips (which to me are a waste of time). dyno time sure is pricey, but i agree worth every penny if ya want the setup to work right. the chances of someone burnin an optimal tune in a building 500 miles away with completely different weather (for a hefty price tag) is just not very high.

Just called a local race shop-$80 for 4/5 dyno runs.....Or till they establish a baseline...Not bad IMO...It'll let me know where I stand at hp/tq wise, and then I can see how much a cam, etc will give me...

Thats not bad for a dyno run ,But thats just a dyno run , thats not a tune , you need all the software and a good tuner , and a good days work

Very true...But just to establish a baseline, no complaints here...

Now, once the goodies start flowing, it'll start costing more for, as you said, TUNING....UGH...lol

Here's a quick list of things I'd LIKE to do, any input to better mate everthing up, will be appreciated...

-Port head-Gasket match Intake/Exhaust ports
-Bore cylinder walls 0.030"
-Shave head 0.010"
-Install Idle-4,500 RPM camshaft
-Enlarge Exhaust Manifold tubes to 1-3/4" pipe
-Install Cloyes Steel Adjustable Timing Gears
-Install either 1.6" or 1.7" Roller Rocker Arms
-Swap TB for a 5.0 TB
-Advance the crank timing 4*
-Advance the dizzy up to around 12-13*

Anymore ideas on this one Lew?

Sounds fine to me , i don't know much about the I 6 , i have had a few mustangs so its 302s for me , if you have a stick the tuning will be alot less , they won't need to work on the trans , the timing cure takes some time , my base timing is set at the stock 10 deg BTDC , its the amount of timing that changes though the rpm range that is contoled by the computer that they change that makes the big difference....Lew

I would think you should be able to get 50 more HP out of it , but remember that will be rear wheel HP , it will be less than fly wheel HP , i assume that dyno run will be done on a dyno jet dyno ??

are they the ones buildin your motor? only reason i ask, they might not have a chassis dyno, but only the engine dyno you link'd up would mean you would have to take your motor to them. somethin you should look into. . .if they dont have it you wont be able to know what youre pickin up at the wheels.

also, different engine builders feel differently about new oils and "break ins". . .but i always like to break my motors in before i rip on them or slap them on a dyno.
