5.4L Gas to Diesel conversion!

5.4L Gas to Diesel conversion!
I have a paid for 2004 Excursion 5.4L V8 2WD 90K miles. I recently moved to an area that i need 4WD and would love a to buy another Excursion, but why when the value seems to hold nicely and the diesel 4x4's seem expensive?.
Priority 1. How hard is it to convert to 4WD? (Utilizing used parts from CL and/or E-bay)
Priority 2. How about converting to Diesel? 6.0L or 7.3L?
I think I know the answer, but wanted some input from people smarter than me! Thanks

Welcome man.
Do yourself a favor and just buy what you want. The 2wd to 4wd conversion wouldn't be terrible, but swapping the motor would be more than you would want to take on. By the time you figure time and parts you will be ahead just to buy one out right.

I think by going to diesel you'd have an easier time swapping to a cummins, as there are a few websites out there offering all the info/stuff you'd need:
fordcummins.com - Increase Horsepower with Ford Cummins Diesel conversion kits
DESTROKED: Cummins Conversions
But since you also need a 4x4, I'd have to agree, trade yours in and get what you need. Or get a front wheel drive beater or small 4x4 for driving around in the winter.

Agree with others just buy another 4x4.
Does the 4x4 have to be an Ex?
If not you could probably find a 4x4 cheap for driving...
If you need a 4x4 Ex and cant afford two Ex's, sell the one/trade the one and buy the 4x4.
Heres a 150k V10 4x4 for 6.9k
Cars for Sale: 2000 Ford Excursion 4x4 XLT in Mt. Pleasant, TX 75455: Sport Utility Details - 290499891 - AutoTrader.com
Lots of stuff out there, just got to look around and possibly be willing to drive/fly for a good deal

It would be a very tough conversion, especially with wiring, dash, and options. Here is some info I have posted before, based on my experience of swapping a 5.4L body onto a diesel chassis... I had to swap everything and I mean everything!
This topic pops up about every week around here, here are a couple recent posts on the subject:

I have done a body swap and it was tough. Mostly because I had different years and different trim options between the two. It was only worth it to me because I had so little money in the two X's I bought. Also, you cannot put an X body on a truck chassis, if thats what you were considering. There are major differences from the cab back...
Heres some info on my swap: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/87...e-frame-2.html
Good luck!!
