Where did you get that tuner?

 

I just checked my old emails and found it. I messed up on the price.. it was 269.00. I bought it from 4wheelonline.com. I have not customized anything on it. I just used the 87 octane setting and man did it make a difference! I bought this truck from a friend of mine and just figured that the motor was too small for the weight of the truck. When you put the accelerator to the floor it felt like you were taking on in 2nd gear. Now it jumps whne you hit it. Mileage really impressed me. My friend got the same tuner for his 2010 Silverado and he can barely notice a difference. I guess my truck was just not right from the factory.
I have to say I was hoping for more features on the tuner, but I think I got my moneys worth with performance and mileage.

 

Father has a 06 250 SD and a 07 350 SD both with the 5.4 and they get 7mpg highway... even worse towing. fully tuned up and new injectors, plug packs, plugs, filters etc.

 

7mpg? Dang! I get 8.5~mpg towing our 8500~lb 5th wheel 65mph. Something is bad wrong with those trucks.

 

09 reg cab with flatbed 3.73 4x4 M6

13 mpg mixed driving on winter gas
14-15 mixed in summer

17 with pickup box on the highway at 72, haven't taken a long highway trip with the flatbed

 

2000 with a 5 speed, lifted 10 inches on 40's, 4.88 gears and i get 7-8 city, 9-10, sometimes more highway. a little engine work, but not much.

 

Reading these coments makes me wonder, why the big differences? But may be it's a Ford thing. We owned a low mileage ( 45t orig in 99 when we bought it) '83' F-250 XLT 2wd, that was a great truck, the heavier you loaded it the better the mpgs got. Empty maybe 8 or 9, put 50 bales of hay in the bed and get 10 to 10.5, hook on what we affectionatly called the giant red box, a 23 foot draft horse trailer with living area and add two 1000 lb AQHA mares and the milage went to 13.8 to 14.9. Needless to say really miss that truck. Now own a '08' SD 2wd basically same truck but younger and higher milage, and it gets 10 to 11.9 town unloaded, and we just drove it 3000 miles with a truck cap and load of belongings and got up to 16.9 mpgs.

 

L Parker, you can't REALLY believe that can you? I mean come on, 8-9 empty and almost 15 towing? I think some people don't realize what a difference in mileage you will see{incorrectly} when you check mileage by where the gauge needle is, or by fueling up after a short trip. The only correct way to know for sure is to fill the tank, then use almost the whole tank and refill it to FULL the same way each time. If you try to drive 20 miles and refill you can get a variance of as much as a a gallon or so of how much fuel it takes, depending on how it is filled, where, how level, temp. outside.... A gallon in 20 miles is a big mileage changer versus a gallon in a 29 gallon fill, and 400 miles. Not trying to be rude , just sayin...

 

9-11 mpg empty or fully loaded

 

Mine is a 2003 5.4 HD F150 FX4 with the tow package, my wifes & my suit cases & toneau cover, 20.2 highway not exceeding 65 mph and outdoor temp 65 deg. This is the best I've got along with the slowest I've drove on a trip.

 

Filled up yesterday and got 11.3 , about 75/25 city/highway

 

Just filled up the other day and got 11.4 in my 05 250 5.4. Lots of country driving with maybe 30-40% highway. I get up into 5th gear as quickly as I can and hold there.

 

Hey guys I'm from the dent-side side of things. I'm looking into stepping up and getting a newer truck. The one I'm looking at is a 02 F250 crew cab long bed with the 5.4 and an auto and 4x4 with 70k on the drivetrain. What kind of mileage can I expect? From what I've read I'm looking about 10-12 for an averag. Any insight in this new creature would be great.

Yeah I would say that for a truck like that 10-12 MPG is a pretty good estimate when you're empty. Gotta love the power of a Ford though, that's why I put up with the not-so-fantastic fuel mileage.
