OK weird thing happening on my 2003 F 250

Once I turn the key on it does the normal buzzing for plugs and after my light goes out to go ahead and start the buzzing/howling sound continues for a while.

Also sometimes while the truck is running you can hear the howling sound in the cab but no codes or nothing

Any input on what could be causing this to happen?

Not sure if power steering pump or something or something else causing this to happen.

It's almost like a buzzing slash howling sick sound but it goes away if you wait long enough

howling sound... I have been wanting to track down mine too.

 

Is yours when you first turn the key over or all the time? Mine will go away but then come back. It seems like it has to do with some kind of pump or something but I also have a buzzing sound on the passenger side of the engine as well.

 

we have to have it break before we can help you fix it.

 

The howling is your fuel pump. The buzzing is the vacume pump. Both are normal sounds.

 

The howl is only with the engine running and is definitely not the fuel pump, which is in the back.

The howl comes from the front, is low frequency, and could be a resonance from the air intake system.

In your case, the buzz from pass is probably the vacuum pump, electric, which I do not have.

 

Check the little air pump on your passenger fender well under the hood. I had the exact same noise and it was the air pump running constantly due to a vacuum leak at the solenoid on the fender. The tech at the local dealer changed out the solenoid for one he had laying around the shop and saved me 90 bucks. You just need the key turned on and have the hood opened to find the culprit. Once I did that it was easy to find.
