Where do you get your tires from? (Expedition)

Hi

I am soon to replace 2 front tires on my 2004 XLT expedition. What is the best way to save money doing this?
I hear some people mail order their tires and have the tire shop or mechanic put them on.
Is this worth it or shall I just go to a tire place?
What tires do you recommend? I drive 50%-50% highway/city.

Thanks a lot

Patrick

I bought a set of four Yokohama Geolanders for my '04 Expy. The are the less aggressive version, ride very well, they're quite and they are wearing perfectly. I have about 10K miles ont hem now and they are showing no signs of wear.

Just a thought, if you can afford it, I recommend replacing all four all at once.

I got mine from Discount tire online and saved a couple hundred dollars on my Michelins even after having them installed at a local shop.

I buy from a local discount tire chain that beats anybody's price, plus they have out the door price witch includes mounting, balancing, stems, disposal, nitrogen and free rotation/balancing every 5k miles.

So all I can say is shop around!

That's the kind of answer I am looking for.
Did you replace 2 or all 4? The 2 in the back are fine on my truck I hate to spend the extra dough.

Thanks so much

Yes I will definitely shop around. I know of 3 locally "Discount tires, big 10 tires and Kauffman tires."
I have just no clue about ordering online, I was wondering how many here do it.

Thanks a lot

Patrick,

I've looked into purchasing online, but the few dollars I would save is not worth the hassle if there is a problem.

Is it a 2WD or a 4WD model?

Oh I'm sorry. I went to Merchants tire. They are part of a national chain but I'm not certain who their parent company is.

I would only be cautious about that if you have AWD. There are some posts on here where guys have had trouble with AWD locking in because of the difference in overall height differences on the tires. Myself, I am rather picky and want everything to match perfect so I always go all four.

Have 4 vehicles that i have purchased complete sets of tires from my local
Goodyear dealer. He matches any price, has tires in 24 hours and offers free balance and rotate every 5k. I like the personal touch and supporting a local business that is competitive.

The tire i am running is a Toyo open country ht. Great all around tire. Low noise, great wet weather grip, good snow traction and so far great longevity. I have them on two suv's and will get them again.

Hope this info helps.

Two places....Costco and Town Fair Tire (Northeast chain)
Costco; The tire price they quote per tire includes everything - stems, balancing, free life time rotation and flat repair. Every 6 months they have a rebate on BFG and Michelin for 75-100 per set. The only thing they can't do is alignments.
Town Fair; They will match any on line price you can find, regardless of where. They have a great internet tool and all you need to do is give them the best price and shipping, click submit and a few hours later they give you a price that beats it by 5% at your local store.

I always get Michelins, broke the rule once in a big way when I bought 8 BFG's, learned my lesson and am back to Michelins.

I get mine from the local Tire Factory store. And I have been happy with the Nokin Vitara.
