no goverment seals on the speedo cables.but we were supposed to go to the inspection and have the meter certified, most never did bother.

heck even boats are that way now. a simple mercruiser or volvo 3.0 liter 4 banger has a cat convertor and MPFI. CA CARB nothing clean to say in my mind as NJ is right there with them on thier coat tails.

It could be that the smaller vehicles, under 14000 lbs are still considered passenger vehicles even though they have the commercial registration requirement. Whereas larger vehicles are considered to be strictly commercial.
I mention this because I have a brother who lives in Idaho and does business here in California. He was required to upgrade his refer and truck engine to comply with California diesel requirements even though his were only 5 years old at the time the California diesel laws changed.

I just recently moved (this summer) out of California to Spokane, Wa. The first thing I had to do when I got here was take both of my diesels to get emissions tested before I could get plates. Didn't have to do that in California. This is nothing new however, I remember seeing an article that was printed in a 1972 California newspaper wheras the California state legislature was trying to pass a law banning the internal combustion engine entirely in the state of California. This was in 1972! They'll never give up.

Wonder if the new governor in CA will change some of the law between now an then? I guess that would leave my old 74 F250 & 80 Camaro out then CA would hate seeing me come through with no EPA crap on either vehicle. Looking to buy a old diesel later on an move to AZ or NV wonder if those states will be doing the same as CA later on?

Most diesels a tuner is all that is really needed to make the power people are looking for. With the power new diesels are making a tuner may not even be needed/wanted.
btw non of my gas vehicles have a cat or are near stock. We don't have any kind of inspections where I live. From what I read it sure sucks to live anywhere else.
