what are you guys doing to get fuel mileage???

I am running the 235/85/16 and my speedo is off a few MPH on the high side....Indicates 65 on Speedometer but GPS indicates 62......I am going with the satellite...My question as I was looking at tires and sizes with a tire selector tool, with 4:10's what tire size would be the best for keeping RPM's low or lower?

I hate the high fuel prices as much as the next guy and as far as I'm concerned #2 should always be the same price or cheaper than regular gas.
I'm not trying to pick a fight here, thanks for letting me vent.

I'm not trying to justify diesel costing more than gas but I see so many people refer to diesel fuel as being "bottom of the barrel" or as you put it "run-off from gasoline" and all I can do is laugh. This couldn't be further from the truth. Especially these days with the strict limits on sulfur content in ULSD, what we pump into our fuel tanks is a pretty highly refined product that requires extensive processing and as we all know lubricity additives.

The point was , diesel comes out of the refining process , considerately less refined than gas .. The Diesel requires a higher distill point , so more cost.. The pisser is , when I was 18 , diesel was always 1/2 the cost of gas at the pump . Fuel oil ,even less ...I have been told ,we refine less diesel today , hence the higher cost ...

Fordman: Had it at the dealer for the cam sensor recall. Wanted a engine hour reading, was advised the computer does not store it. Engine and trans look orginal. Have a friend that worked at the refinery, said workers live the the trucks 24/7, engines running all the time, driving from valve to valve, taking guage readings and calibrating systems. Trucks get removed by flatbed for service. Runs very good, maybe the refinery fresh fuel helped. Amazed that the oil looks new, 600 miles after I changed it.

Back in the 60's, before diesels were in everything and everywhere, diesel was cheap.
And at that time, a lot of it was what was left after everything else was cooked out of the crude.
But I hate to tell you, your Power Stroke would not like that fuel very much.
5000+ PPM sulphur, tons of parrafin, water was common since it sat in delivery tanks so long and fuel algae was rather common.
With all the compounds that come from crude today, the number of diesels out there and the extra refining modern fuel takes, it is far from the bottom of the barrel junk type fuel that it was 50 years ago.

Powerstroker: Thanks for your interest. It is a 1997 F250HD, diesel. All stock, 2 wheel drive, 235/85/16 tires, auto trans, open 3.55 rear. Has a Ford bedliner with steel plate on top of it bolted thru to frame in eight places, square tubing/ metal mesh front panel behind cab, square tubing along top of bed sides, trailer hitch plus what might be a 5th wheel ball hitch base plate welded to the big plate and a Tommy Gate. Found a work order in the truck to move a calibration trailer. Near perfect windshield because of the 10mph max speed. Of course it is white and the seat, steering wheel and radio buttons are well worn.
It will be a second vehicle with limited use.
I would like to thank everyone at this forum for the education I gained during the past month.

Paid $1800. All panels factory white paint code YO, no clear coat. Right quarter panel pushed in at front bottom. Most of it will push out and look OK. Nicks and small dents in other areas, nothing worth fixing. Does not need a paint job. I'll touch up the nicks and it will be a good looking work truck.
No rust problems. Rockers, floors, frame, spring mounts solid.
