block heater

i have a 1997 mazda b4000, 4L, 5 speed, 4x4. i just tried plugging in the block heater for the 1st time. i took the cap off the male end of the plug and it was covered in mud and crap. i cleaned it off and plugged it into an outside plug with a circuit breaker and it popped the circuit breaker. i resest the breaker and tried it a few more times and it blows the breaker every time. anyone had this problem before? would my block heater be burnt out or something? i have never had a truck with a block heater before, so i dont realy know how they work or anything.

Have you tried multiple outlets?

It might just be the circuit that the plug is on is too loaded. Happens in our shop sometimes
