"walked away". wow. Weakened, ya know, gotta do the humanitarian thing, get the gun n go euthanize em, needs to B put outta his misery, not suffer. AND retribution for your damage!

Hey, I never heard a alum lock rings. What happens in the mud and rocks. Don't they get chewed up and eventually disappear? Sounds like it would B tricky to tighten down properly? I like the light weight aspect tho ("unspring weight")

Good lookin Bronco, looks like it can really raise some hell!
There should be a hole in the floorboard under the drivers seat, that is where the valve goes to change tanks. If it's pointing towards the drivers door, you're on the front tank. If it points to the passenger door, you're on the rear. The factory tanks are 12 gal rear and 9 gal front, if I remember right, so the extra front really comes in handy for an all day trail. I usually burn all of the front and 1/2 of the rear on a full day ride, so the rear wouldn't be enough for me.
If you want rocker protection, the popular and stronges seems to be to cut the body right under the door and weld in 4" square tubing right to the body, then paint to match. Maked it strong as hell.
There are a couple of different soft tops available, if you're interested. Bestop makes one (which is what I have),about $800. The other one is just as good for about $500, don't spend the extra for the bestop (I wish I'da known).
Take a look at the front end and see if you've got a D30 or D44. Tires that big and aggressive will probably bust the D30 if you get to hard on the skinny pedal.
Food for thought, the NP435 tranny four speed we all love in our dentsides and bumpsides can be put in pretty easily, and that low 1st gear is awsome when you're out wheeling. I think the adaptor was about $400 when I did mine (2 years ago), money well spent. A body lift makes a little room, but it's been done without one.
Finally, check out classicbroncos.com. The guys there live and breath early Broncos, more info than you can imagine. One more thing; everyone I know with one of these things gets into them more than anything else. I've got a Ford tattoo, but once I got an early Bronco all my other Fords took a back seat to it. Not to mention when you embarass a jeep, it really feels good. The downside is most people will call it a jeep, you just gotta correct them.

Thanks, since I pretty much just got it and now have it starting, running, steering, and stopping. I am still figuring it all out, I do not have the tank switch, or any wiring on the rear one.
And have since removed the front tank, the filler neck and fuel lines were not even connected or there. The rear is now cleaned out and has a pick up tube filter.
As far as rockers/sliders I am still looking into some different designs, thanks for the tip. I have a well worn best top that I got sewed back up and it will work fine now.
Best I can figure I have a D44 w/disk brakes and a locker up front according to the previous, previous owner. The C-4 is working so I am leaving it alone for now, that way the wife can wheel it too.
I have located about all the Bronco sites and am reading and leaning all I can. And I know what you mean about the EB being addictive, I have all but almost abandoned my other ford truck/trucks/projects.
And yea its already been confused for a cheep, I mean jeap ah what ever ya call them things. (I say wannabe Bronco) lol I corrected that person real fast and promptly roosted them with a bogger full of mud!

I scored, I think?
Just traded my ol stock doors that were in rough shape. No glass in the dvrs side, no window crank handles, passenger side a little rust and is a little dented. No mirrors and the PO cut off the upper window tracks.
Straight across for some fiberglass inserts with back plates and some Kayline? soft doors.
I think I got the better deal?? Pic is of what they came off of. I got them to keep the mud out and the heat in sort of....

inserts with back plates and soft doors
Sounds complete, I bet you'll like that alot more, unless ur BIG & get in n out alot. 'S warm down there in MO.
No door is what I use - cept in winter, too much in & outin. N w/that I often hit my toes on the post (only 5'10"). May B it's the unbending of the aged. 8^0

Yea been a while and I've been on a long hard work trail for a while, I am now on a 60/30 in Iraq making bronco fixin up money.....
But been working and wheeling the bronco when I can, got a fresh dose of back 40 mud on it and took it to the 15th Annual 4Wheel Jamboree Nationals in May when I was home on R&R. Hung out with some fellow Missouri FTE folks and had a great G2G and all around good time.
Was trying to get ol blue's PO BS lift issues fixed and have it trailer tow the Bronco there.
Was not in the cards to have it happen that way, but at least the bronco made it.
I mudded up my rig so the fancy one had a better chance to win.....it was a NICE bronco. All that fancy and a hood stick, he could put some hood struts on easy enough.
There was narrowed rock crawler bronco there, but I never had my camera when it went by.

In pic #1 the L/h truck got its 4x4 running gear from me and its a 79 with a 77 swapped in grill (from me too and the factory push bar) and belongs to a great FTE buddy that comes up and gives me a hand when I am home wrenching on things Ford related.
The R/H truck 1979 got the cab from me and is another FTE bud thats always there lending a hand when we are working on some Ford stuff too. It was a wrench fest cab swap at his house.....
And heck yea that sharp muddy faded red EB in the middle is mine and the tool boxes open from the top. They are normal truck bed fenderwell tool boxes and work great if you do not need a tail gate.
Only a little cut mod (to the box) to clear the aft tank filler neck inner bed piece and a little cut around the rear legs on the roll bar, its sort of ghetto but works like a champ.
We got the FTE banner made by another FTE guy and pass it around for safe keeping like the Olympic torch. Yes it screams "FORD ROCK STARS ARE HERE"!
How about at least a chrome piece of pipe or painted black square tubing, but no a friggin stick. I am sure the judges loves that mod lol.
Both them guys came up and were instrumental in getting the front lift swapped out on ol blue. But one problem after another made it go to the back burner.
I attached some t/b box pics and they are common to get from about any truck accessories place. They even have ones that swing out and have draws like a reg tool box.
I paid 100 for them both and they were already red, and hold tons of tools, 2 chebby ****** straps, a military style 5 gal gas can in each and still have room for spare d/s parts, a assortment of fluids that those yota guys always need on the trail. lol And a 35' bogger still fits nicely......
