Welcome to the forum Major2!

If I recall I had to drop the column but not remove it entirely.

When it stops raining I'll go poke my head under the dash and refresh my memory as to exactly what the steps were.

I ended up dropping the column down & letting the wheel rest on the bench seat. I pulled the air cleaner box, over flow tank & washer tank then slid the master cyl & booster assy. out to get clearance inside to remove the clutch/brake assy. This was easier for me than taking the column all the way out.

Mine wasn't all that bad.

Hope yours goes well!!
