The '52 advertisements show they were green like the other '52 engines. I've read here and elsewhere that Detroit Diesel green is close. Chuck says it's '52 Lincoln green and recommended Bill Hirsch. I'll do a scan afterwhile and post the artist's idea of what they looked like. Stu

thanks for the interest guys, what i was after is a idea of what its suppose to look like after the cleaning and repaint. the block seems to be a powder blue or mint green and i have no idea what everything else should look like. its all brown now. just thought i would make it look as close to stock as i could. and i did find a manifold Stu, thanks for remembering, something mine has that i didnt see the in the two other pics is a tube or rod sticking up from the top of the head that has a 110 volt cord coming out of it. i assume its a heater, but have never seen one in a head like that before. and Wayne, i will probably need some type of carb linkage later, i havent got it figured out how the carb link and what i think is the choke link all line up. this is probably a no-brainer for some of you, but this is about 20 years my senior so i am learning.

Engine Colour List This chart is for V8's, and is one that mtflat has shown me in the flathead group. (it's also posted on the HAMB)
In 1952 the mileage maker six (or is it cost-clipper, I don't know the difference) was introduced. According to Don Bunn's book ( Classic Ford F-Series Pickup Trucks ... - Google Books ), it appears that engine was blue. The 254 L6 was still being used for the bigger trucks, and I'm assuming remained the same as the earlier colors. Coupled that with the letter to Mr. Degnan noting the 254 was different, I wonder what color the big six changed to? I'm assuming light green like Stu mentioned, in 1951. Wayne's F6 parts trucks appear to be that color as well. I can't remember what years those trucks were. Mine was a 1950 and earlier.

thanks for the help guys, looks like its gonna be green and black. i think i can handle that. and i was thinking that was a block heater but i cant believe they put it in the place of a head bolt. one last ? is are the head bolts strong enough to lift the engine. it got loaded and unloaded with a chain around the front mounts and rear of trans but it will go in with a chain on the head bolts if they are strong enough. i dont need it to fall and then everyone say,"everybody knows you cant do that!" thanks again and have a Merry Christmas everyone!

I remember someone posted a pic of one a while back that looked green when the discussion was about the decal on the valve cover.

Here's some pics of the 254 in the '52 F6. It's definitely green. There's green on the intake manifold, and remnants on the head and water pump. The generator and bracket is black, along with the coil bracket, spark plug wire bracket and oil filler pipe. The fan and water pump pulley was also black. Hope these help.
This is the side of the block on the '51 engine. It looks like it could be a different color, almost a silvery-blue, but I suppose it could just be discolored from age. I don't know. It doesn't look anything at all like the '52.
