PO191 for Escape Hybrid

I have read that the PO191 code indicates a bad fuel pump driver module on other Ford trucks. Does anyone know if this is the same for an '05 Escape hybrid? THX!

The PCED for your specific vehicle says:

P0191 - Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) Sensor Circuit Performance
Description: The comprehensive component monitor (CCM) checks the FRP for acceptable fuel pressure. The test fails when the fuel pressure falls below or exceeds a minimum/maximum calibrated value for a calibrated period of time.

Possible Causes: High fuel pressure.
Low fuel pressure.
Damaged FRP sensor.
Excessive resistance in the circuit.
Low or no fuel.

Diagnostic Aids: The FRP PID value during KOER should be between 275 kPa (40 psi) and 485 kPa (70 psi).

GO to Pinpoint Test DD .
FWIW, it's my opinion that the diagnostic steps that follow are beyond the scope of a forum such as this and would need to be performed by a technician trained in diagnosing electronics problems who also has an appropriate scan tool.

If you want to hang a part on the car and see if you get lucky, replace the FRP sensor. Otherwise, take it to a Ford-trained tech for diagnosis.

THX! Seems like a reasonable gamble...~$110 for the FRP sensor and another $110 for the FPDM. If they work then I'm better off than going to the mechanic. If those don't work then there are two less things the mechanic would have to diagnose (and charge for).

Not really. What if you put both parts on and that didnt fix it then take it to a shop and all that is wrong is a broken wire in the harness by the PCM. You are out the 220 plus whatever cost to fix it. Take it to a dealer that has worked on hybrids. Not every one has experience with them.

On a side note, I'm glad you didn't say anything about a "thrown" code. It seems like everyone here get codes thrown at them daily.

I didn't say anything about the FPDM - that idea is bogus.

Several posts in the F150 section mentioned the FPDM as a culprit for PO191 - one post even replaced it with success. In digging deeper, some mentioned replacing the fuel filter too. That would be a cheaper fix and one I should do anyway as part of maintenance on a 100k+ vehicle. I'll start there.
