Get a 2010 or wait?

Not looking to start a huge war - just a simple question related to my situation. I would love to buy a crew cab 4x4 truck, but in my infinite wisdom bought a Pontiac 2 years ago to save on gas, etc.

Now - Besides the $4,500 or so on customer cash back out there, are there any other great price reductions on the 2010 that make them worth jumping on right now. I am mainly looking to see what kinds of things people have been able to do to knock the price down on the 2010's. There are TONS on the lot near me (30 crew cab 4x4's), should I go in there and twist their arm or wait until January and see how anxious they get?

OR - do I wait for the 2011's? I don't have to change vehicles, the Pontiac costs me 11 cents a mile to drive, its just BORING.

Thanks all - my current Ford is a 1977 F150 with a built 460 - so this "new" Ford thing is out of my league.

The rebate on the 2011 is only $1000 right now so you'll save a lot more plus the dealers are dealing big time right now. You will save a lot more money by buying a 2010. Also if you are trading your Pontiac in, dealers are scrambling for used vehicles and are paying more for them right now.

The deals are out there on '10's for sure, that's why I didn't hold out for the 2011's.

I had the same question a few weeks ago. i eneded up getting the 2010, there are plenty of them out there and they are willing to give you a great deal above and beond the 4500.00

I did test drive the 2011's and the changes was not significan enough to wait.

Here was my desiding factor.

1. It did not look like the 2011 in the configuration i wandted was coming out this year.
2. cant beat the extra 4500.00 in savings.
3. every year there is something new, cant always wait.
4. the power engine in the 2011 is new, who knows how good it will be, the 2010 has a solid engine and power train.
5. the only notable change i would like in my 2010 is the dash cluster from the 2011

whatever you get you will love it.

First off maybe call around to a couple dealers and see if any are offering "invoice pricing".....

then hammer the heck out of them to start with invoice sticker price!

they can give up to $6500 initial rebate in most areas, then an additional $1000 for trade in allowance, then $1000 to finance with Ford Motor Credit. right there is $8500!!

after 8 hours of hashing out dealer price, and trade in value, we drove off the lot with our new truck. if your serious, they will go all out, if the honestly can't get to a reasonable price for you, then just be prepared to shake hands and head out the door, and try again later.

If you don't mind saying where did you buy what did you buy and how much was msrp and what was selling price. I'm in the market and I see we're from the same state. I would travel for right deal.

It all depends on what your needs and wants are. As I've said before, once the 2010's are gone, the deals on the 2011's will come. My local dealer is loaded with 2010's so to strike a deal on a 2011 right now would mean to pay top price.

When I do start shopping for 2011, I would give great consideration to a 2010 4.6 3V equipped and priced the way I want it.

HIXON Autoplex in Alexandria (is where i got mine from), also check Billy Wood ford in Jena, and Hub City in Lafayette.

now my F150 is an XLT 2wd with a 5.4L, they had/have more 4.6's than they did 5.4L so price might a little different. mine had the preferred equipment package 507A (that's listed right under the "optional equipment" section on the sticker price.

35,855 was sticker price
- 8500 in total rebates
-----------
27,355 after rebates
(then i happen to mention that Billy Wood Ford in Jena was offering $2000 less after rebates, Billy Wood is advertising "up to $11000 off F150's, it varies by model)

so they dropped it to 25,500 (10K off the sticker price, and $500 under dealer invoice on this particular xlt model)

so if i wouldn't have had a trade in, that's what i'd have been looking at for price + TTT. after we hashed out the sticker price then we moved on to my trade in value. we haggled over that for a while too, finally ended up at $7500 from my trade in that left me with $18K + TTT

if you get to the point where you are talking with the sales manager at hixon, he is an Army Veteran, plus the sales manager at Billy Wood is one of his old bosses, so he just might want to steal a sale from Billy Wood Ford if you mention them a couple times. real good guy in my opinion.

hope that helped out some.

A no-brainer question/answer IMHO. 2010' for sure. Rebates plus incentives should render NO LESS than a price that's 75% of sticker. Some here doing even better than that. The F-150 2011' is being advertised highlighting their new engines which I'm sure are great but one can't beat what Ford is offering on their 2010's. Negotiate hard and use the internet for e-mail pricing. I did much homework and sent out many e-mail quote requests. And came away with a great 2010' Ford F-150 Lariat 4X4. GREAT truck.

2010 are marked down because they are last years model. That means you are buying a truck one year old and basically worth less now and when you go to trade it worth less then too. From my experience in the past the amount of markdown that you get for a last year's model truck about equals the extra depreciation that it has. So basically you can buy a 2010 cheaper up front but sell it cheaper later, with an 2011 you pay more up front, but get more when you sell it.

If you are happy with the 2010 engines and transmission go for it. I prefer the new engines as well as the improved 6 spd transmission

Believe me the depreciation issue (2010' vs 2011') is mute IMHO. For it exists on every vehicle. What you have to look at is WHAT are you paying out now for an 2010' vs 2011'. Because NOBODY can predict future worth in the auto world. The only reason we have off-the-chart, historic high used car prices right now is due to new vehicle sales numbers falling off the earth. From 17M to less than 11M. So TAKE the cash deals and be happy. Forget that accounting issue called depreciation. You can argue all day long about it to no avail. As Jim Morrison sang: the future is uncertain and the end is always near. Go with what today brings my friend and be happy with it.

Depreciation is only an issue if you trade more frequently than every 6 years.

Depreciation was a big factor in my decision. I got my 2010 because I got it for $10k off MSRP. I could sell it now, used with 4k miles, for more than I paid new. The dealers in Oklahoma don't make deals anywhere near what I got in Dallas, so the price for used trucks stays high...

Buy the 2010 and forget the depreciation factor. You'll save anywhere from $4500-8500, and you'll get a great truck! The deals are there now, and if you wait, you'll pay a lot more than the depreciation factor will be. Good Luck!
