1949 Merc cross members

I bought my 49 Merc in 1978 and it has been my driver ever since. I took it down and did all of the body work in 1990. Now, I'm doing it again. You know, I thought I had just fixed it ... time goes on. I noticed that my two middle box sills/cross members have totally rotted away whereas the ones I built for the front and back are still good. Does anyone know where I can find repro parts or should I just make them again myself? My daughter said the truck looked "naked" with out those big fenders on. Cheers. Michael.

Here is my "new" 51 or 52 (I dont know how to tell the exact year yet) merc. Got er for really cheap, with a merc tailgate from a 48-50. The guy I got it from had a ton of old vehicles from every make and model! Lots of ford and merc half tons, but most were really rough, including this one. This one was just the "best" for cheapest. He wanted some high dollars for some others that were in alot worse shape!

My 52 M1 the day I brought it home. Front clip was replaced with one from a ford truck at some point. The Vin and the rest of the trim is all Mercury.

Original tailgate is in pretty decent shape!

peppypro - based on the front clip your truck looks like a 51. 52's had either "FORD" or "MERCURY" lettering on the peice below the nose of the hood. The V8 badge was located on the hood nose trim.

Although, after 60 years the only way to know for sure is the VIN#.

Visiting a local Friday night car show

I visited the North St. Paul car show this past Friday evening. I finally got her running for the season - but now the season is almost over.

10-20 is code for "what's your location" .......it's radio talk. I suppose no one uses radios any more so it's probably obsolete.

I would love to see a picture of your original radio. My truck was originally purchased without a radio so I have a panel with the word 'Mercury' on it where the radio should be.
