How many miles on your 302efi?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-Nov-02 AT 01:20 AM (EST)]I had an 84 E250 with a 302 carb engine that ran great for about 165,000 miles before the upper timing gear went. (Anybody know why they use those nylon gears?) I replaced the gears and chain and sold it about 2 years later with 175,000 and still running strong.

About 120,000 on my 93 F-150 302, no problems. Had a 302 in my 69 Mustang, it went almost 350,000 mile before I rebuilt it (never did rebuild the tranny, a C-4 before I sold the car). I don't expect my truck's engine to last as long seeing how the truck weights twice as much as the mustang. 302 is a good engine, proven design that's been around sine 1968.

Mine is about to roll 193,000 with no major problems. About four months ago, I had to replace the water pump, power steering pump, engine pulleys and Throttle Position Sensor on it but these are all problems that I would expect to show some wear in this kind of mileage. I get a little lifter noise when I first start it, but it still has excellent oil pressure and doesnt leak or burn anything other than the tires and Gas....lots of gas. The superchip and full dual exhuast and K&N filter kit makes a big power diff and cost less than 500 bucks.

Also, the 302 is just a large version of a motor that has been around since wheels were square, the 289. They are a pretty good motor. The 95 is a little different than the rest. The firing order is different and the engine is Mass Air injected. I think the 96 was the same as the 95 but Im not sure.

I just bought a 1993 F-150 4x4 for $700 pretty clean body. I bought it with a Blown 302. The truck has 115k on it. The #8 piston along the cylinder wall Burned thru.
So I am currently installing a 97 explorer 302 shortblock 50k mi with a Rebuilt set of heads. Hope the Trans will last.

How many miles on your 302efi?
Hello
I have a1995 F150 2wd ext cab with the 302.
I had 205,000 when I put in a long block and rebuilt the tranny. I had no problems with it. I just thought it had too many miles on it.I now have 270,000 on the truck I had to replace the distribator today. I am shooting for the million mile mark.

Hey spag, welcome to the forum
Hate to rain on you parade spag, but I doubt the Slick 50 did a darn thing for you. The Teflon that the Slick 50 folks claim will make your engine last forever is a partial suspended in an oil base. The job of your oil filter is to filter out partials. So basically your oil filter got coated with Teflon, but your engine probably didn't. Also, Teflon will only bond with metal in a high heat, vacuum environment. This does not describe the inside of and engine block. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if it was the Slick 50 that caused your oil pump to fail.
But that's why your on this forum, so you can learn what works, what doesn't. I've pickup quiet a few money saving tips and repair advice on this site. So please don't let my little rant on Slick 50 scare you away.
