It's been a great business for me. I charged less than the local shops because I had a very low overhead, so the farms got a good deal, and I didn't have a shop and employees to worry about. I bought a used Ford ambulance several years a go and set it up as my service truck. Best service truck I've ever had!
I haven't completely retired yet, my customers would probably shoot me.....But I work when and where I want to now!
That was exactly my idea. I plan to graduate OSU with Ag Business degree, then go to LBCC for Heavy Diesel Mechanics, Welding and CNC Machining, and then get my CDL and heavy equipment operator certificate. I figure with that skill set and having a small shop or field setup I can undercut the typical tractor dealers and make some money! Did you ever do any work on the SC side of the river?
You've chosen wisely! Great potential for work in this field. I have my hands full just with Gilliam County, but I do engineering work for a couple of gold mines in Montana. I also give seminars on Biodiesel production. I've been trying to get a Bio Co-Op started here, but most of these old farmers are resistant to change.......

Wow! Mind if I ask where you got your degrees from/in. IIRC you have a couple and they are in ee. I don't believe school was listed. I think bio is a good option.
Georgia Tech, and WSU. Biodiesel is THE future in farming. If you can take 1-200 acres out of 6-10,000 acres per farm and raise 10,000 gallons of fuel for your farm ( a years worth...) it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out it's a win-win deal........

If a farmer becomes at least part self sufficient in fuel, food costs go way down......win-win. Bio-deisel tech should be made easy and available for any farmer who wants it.
It is readily available (and free from me...) but getting them to change is like pulling teeth!
I have 2 farms and 2 trucking co's that I sell to once in a while. They would take all I can produce, but I don't want to get into the full time production business........I'M RETIRED!

Any chance you would be interested in potentially forming a 50/50 partnership in the future with someone like myself? If so Im me or something and I'll send my email or cell so we can talk about it.
Welcome to the chapter! Sounds like a great truck you've got there.
I'll be moving back to Corvallis in a couple months when I get out of the Marine Corps. Maybe we'll pass by each other sometime. Shouldn't be hard to miss our trucks...
Welcome from duck country!! haha just kidding I'm a transplant from Texas.... and duck mania gets on my nerves! Enjoy the rainy valley while your here.
