But would the GPR cause it to die after 10 minutes and not restart? What about no white smoke when cranking? Doesn't that mean no fuel getting into the cylinders and wouldn't that mean something is not activating all the injectors. I'm not a diesel mechanic though. Most every thing I know about PSDs I've learned from you guys on here. Thanks by the way. Like Brown said maybe the oil in the HPOP is low or IDM, But the other guys on here know alot more than I do. hopefully some will come to your rescue soon. If you knew someone with a IDM that worked, you could switch it out just to see if that was it. Other than that I'm not sure how to test the IDM.

Yeah, you are right, if it starts then dies, that would not be it.
Someone here has seen this before.....someone will add

Could the codes he is getting be from some bad glow plugs? That probably has nothing to do with why it died and will not restart.

By the way, the HPOP Screw/Hex type has been stripped out since I bought the truck in 09. I'll have to get it out and replace it.
Remove the oil pressure sending unit instead of the hex screw...Stick something in there to see if you have oil in it ..

Did you verify fuel pressure yet ? ...

Yes, it has fuel pressure, but since I live in Kalifornia and we are notorious for really bad diesel, could that be the problem? I am trying to remove the hex screw, it was really reamed out by the previous owner. I also checked the voltage on both sides of the GP Module (Cali model truck), and I am getting +/- 12v on the right side and 0v on the left with the key off. But with the key on I'm getting +/- 10v on the left (side that sends juice to the GP's. So I may have to replace the GP Module as well. I'll let you know in a minute if the HPOP has oil (looks like I'm going to buy a new hex type screw thingy cause I'm getting if off one way or the other).

Still beating a dead horse (or truck). So far here is what has been done.
New CPS, new fuel filter and cleaned the screen with a broken off Q-tip. Fuel pressure at the schrader valve is around 40-45 (darn gauge not that accurate). Puled the #22 fuse and tested it with ohms meter - good. Checked Oil in HPOP, good. Checked GPR and it's pulling 10volts off the GP side, (charging the batteries again).

Could I have gotten a Bad (new) CPS. The reason I ask is that I sprayed some starting fluid in it before the glow plugs had time to heat up (someone told me that was safe) and it still wouldn't start. Will the CPS if bad, not allow the engine to fire no matter what? thanks again for any and all help!

You could get a bad CPS from the box. Did you get one from ford or a cheap one from a auto parts store?
You should NEVER use starting fluid in a truck with glowplugs, as soon as the glowplugs heat up you could kill them. You'd have to unplug them so that they wouldn't heat up at all if you were to do that, but using it once shouldn't hurt it too much.

I still think you should change the oil also, 5k miles is getting up there...

It didn't even fire a little with starting fluid? where did you spray into? can you pull the intake hose and see if your turbo spins by hand. It should spin freely.Deactivate the glow plugs if your going to try starter fluid. I read some bad stuff about using it.
