I've heard that same argument that they are one thirsty beast, but when compared to my 4.7L Ram, I've only lost a couple of MPGs empty and actually do better when towing the trailer. It's been far more reliable than my Ram and cheaper to get parts for.

I feel that I should add that I bought my Ram new in '03 and by '09 and 130,000 miles the engine was losing power, the rear u-joint was failing again, the ball joints were getting sloppy again, and the upholstery was shot.

Other than exhaust studs, totally dependable. I'd buy a v10 again in a heart beat.

Simply put, the best Engine I have ever owned. Mine is 10 years old and 152,000 miles. Flawless. Just regular maintenances.

The V10 is as ROCK solid as they come... I'd still have mine if I hadn't gotten rear ended by a dump truck.

V10

I love my V10 it does all I ask of it. I came from a 6.0 and it was a nightmare. The 7.3 is a good engine, the best diesel ford every made. But as you said they are getting long in tooth.

Facial contortions. That seems to be the most pervasive V10 problem. Can't drink my coffee and grin at the same time..... BSEG forever!

I bought my '05 brand new and use it 90% of the time to pull my 5th wheel described in my signature. The only thing done on the truck is fluid and filter changes. That's it, period!

Thanks for the help with a Ford V10 engine . Looking for a big van with V10. BTW , whatever you do, DO NOT buy a Ford Diesel. Made by the old International Harvester Co with a new name. I learned the hard way at a loss of over $10,000. No , some Ford diesels are NOT better than others---ALL bad unless you get very lucky. See suits over this engine by dealers, etc. Do your homework before and you will avoid. I am a Ford guy.

I've had two 6.8's, and they were great.
But the new 6.7 is a nice engine. And it is not made by IH.

V10 is awesome

I have 267000 flawless km on my 2006 F250 V10.

I have yet to have an issue with my truck. It is the most reliable vehicle that I have ever owned. The only problem that I've had is leaky valve stems haha. It's towed everything I've thrown at it. Only complaint is the small gas tank. 100 litres is too small for a thirsty truck. It would of been nicer with a larger tank.

You are right about the gas tank size. But to be honest, the 29 gallon on my short tank is good for at least 250 miles on the highway. That is longer than I can drive without getting out to stretch!

Interstate driving that is not a problem. If you do a lot of back road driving I would consider keeping 10 gallons or so in the bed. I would change to the bigger transflow tank but the cost is not worth it to me.

I've got over 200K miles on mine and other than replacing one coil, and spark plug changes, I haven't laid a wrench on the motor. Still has the original antifreeze in it.
