How much are the dealer DOC fees in your area?
Here in Hampton Roads, the DOC fees are ranging from $99.00 at Williamsburg Ford to $499.00 at Hall Automotive.
I've taken the time to call dealers and ask specifically what the doc fee entails and no one would answer my questions.
Obviously the fees are designed to pad the bottom line but no one would admit that.

Don't know, never paid one. I've always either walked from the sales floor or gotten them to remove it from the bill.
The services for which they claim the doc fees are for are part of their business overhead and, as galaxie pointed out, should be included in the gross profit of the selling price.

Ford limits it to I think $75 for X-plan customers. $40 or $50 is the legal limit in California. In Nevada I have seen hundreds of dollars. Its real simple for me to negotiate an out-the-door total price, then they can work the numbers backwards to that total. I paid $21,000.00 in 2005 for a new truck. The selling price came out to $18,9XXX.XX, dont remember or care about the exact number.
