I would go for the newest 6.0 you can afford. Although I had a bad experience with my 6.0 the 6.4 can be very expensive after warranty.
I also agree with getting the newer truck. I've had two 7.3's and neither was close to the 6.0 in performance and refinement.
Plus you get a solid proven 5 speed trans in either truck but a 7.3 will have the old 4 speed auto. And thats not good.

Welcome to FTE fergi515 Read through the forums and understand the newer engines, later model 6.0L are pretty good and have no issues unless you plan on using a tuner to increase the HP. The 6.4 is a 3 year engine run and can get expensive with the emission components. A good rule is buy an extended engine warranty to save you from an unwanted expense.

personally the 6.4 is a good motor. Emissions stuff can be an issue but not if you understand it.
You can always work around the emissions stuff and then you would not have to worry about it.
Since you are farming most likely you have been around diesels and have worked on them so this is no different with the exception of the electronics and sensors.

I traded up from a 7.3 manual 4x4.
That truck was in the shop more times than not. All covered under warranty. Sold it with 36,000 miles because I was afraid of the bills after the 3 year warranty period.
I'd say about ...$10k to 12k in repairs, engine out I think twice, I forget now.
Now, with this 2006 6.0l... with 55k mi. one time in the shop for a radiator cap!
and I had a turbo seal that went bad so I did the work myself since it was over 5 years old by then.
That's it. a radiator cap covered under warranty for the 6.0 and a bazillion things with the ol' 7.3
but between the 6.0 and the 6.4, stick with the 6.0.,
you won't regret it
btw welcome to FTE
