transmission leak
#31
I dropped off my truck for the door handle recall, and told them I was getting the leaking from the bulkhead seal in my transmission (mentioned TSB 11-03-25). They called back and confirmed the seal was bad, mentioned it was on national back-order but that they were able to get one from another dealer, and that the work would all be covered by the 5/60k powertrain warranty (my truck has almost 57,000 miles on it. All went well. Make sure you check your tranny if you are getting close to 60k. After the warranty runs out, you have to pay for it yourself, per Ford. Good luck.

I also had this tranny leak after long trip and then truck sitting for a couple of days. The first time it happened the Ford dealership changed the tranny pan gasket and said some of the tranny bolts were not tight.2nd time it happened looked here for people with same problem and sure enough it found out about the leaky connector TSB 11-03-25.Called the dealership and told them what I had found on the Forms and gave them the TSB # I took the tuck back to have leak checked out again and they did confirm that the connector was leaking.I told the mechanic to change the tranny filter while the pan was off,I didn't realize that they would charge me $101.?? and some change. The service manager was not there when I paid the bill so I did not feel like arguing with them after sitting more than 3 hours my back was killing me and I couldn't wait to get home. This was done on Wednesday May 31/12 and truck was not used until Saturday June 2/12 and only drove approx. 60 miles since this service.Went to back out of parking space the truck started bucking put it in drive and seemed ok but while driving along at about 60mph the truck stared to lose power and fortunately I was able to take a exit ramp to get off main highway. The truck stalled right out and I had pulled onto shoulder of off ramp,oh before I forget,I could smell like something was burnt? When I started the truck back up and put it into drive it didn't seem to have any power to pull itself.I called CAA and had the truck hauled home as the Dealerships were closed as it was after 6:00 pm on a Saturday,I guess I will have to get towed to Dealership Monday.
Does anybody have a clue what might be going on,I'm thinking it is tranny problems??
Thanks in advance guys, these forms are great!!!!!

Same problem
Hey All!!
Im new to this forum, glad I found it. I'm having the same issue, I noticed reddish liquid on the crossmembers and under on the concrete below. It seems like there should be a recall on this part.... Does anyone know if this causes any damage or concern to the actual transmission? I plan on taking it in to the dealer tomorrow, I don't know how long it's been doing this though, so I'm concerned.
Thanks

It is not a safety issue so it will not be a recall. Very very few things get recalled unless safety related. This is why they try to sell you an extended warranty when you purchase a vehicle.

Check out TSB 11-3-25 "Transmission bulkhead connector sleeve leaking"
What some may be experiencing is covered in TSB 11-3-25. I just experienced this problem and my 2010 F150 is at the dealer now. They have confirmed that my problem is the leaking electrical bulkhead connector sleeve..... to the tune of > $500.00!

I had the same problem with mine. It turned out the be the transmission bulk head connector. While mine was in warranty and the repair was no charge, I also paid the dealer to install a new filter kit. I figured since they were dropping the pan and all that old transmission fluid, I might was well give them the extra $65 for the filter kit, and turn it into a transmission service at the same time. that was around a year ago and there has been no problems since.

Wow! My used 2010 scab FX4 with 56K miles was ONE MONTH out of its 5-year warranty period when I took it to my dealer to have this repair made, and I was charged a lot less than that. I have nothing but praise for the service department at Bowditch Ford in Newport News, VA.
