Yes it's a carb conversion. Originally a 5.8 E4OD, swapped to a 429 C6, which was swapped over to a E4OD later, and finally 'detuned' from the 429 to a 460 (same motor, just different crank, cam and pistons to make it more street friendly). The TPS sensor controls the transmission controller.

Definitely "detuned", the 429 was just a hair under 12:1 with a pretty radical cam, it ran like the proverbial raped ape, and would make the hair on the back of your neck stand up at 7500+ rpms. The 460 is running a smaller cam and is "only" at 10.5:1. It's still plenty "lumpy" sounding, but puts alot more grunt out at lower rpms than the 429 did. It also runs out of cam around 6500rpm and doesn't rev quite like the 429 did though. The trans is being controlled by a Baumann unit right now, altho I am going to try and see if I can fool the factory ecm to control it on the F350. The shift pattern that is stock on the F350 4x4 w/5.8 would work real well with the way the 460 is set up.

It is a metallic shade, but it is not overpowering with the metallic.
The hood is not done yet, it will be later when I get to it. For now I will use the regular hood, and once its all done, I will figure exactly where I want the scoop and then do another hood that I have sitting to the side.

Finally got another free day to get out in the shop and get some work done. The plan was to pull the 460 from the F250 and get it into the F350, but as we all know about the great plans of men and mice, it didn't quite work out that way. Things started out well enough... drop the exhaust, driveshafts, transfer case, etc. Shouldn't be too hard right? WRONG!! Behold the end results of "unbreakable" motor mounts after several years of 500+ hp being dumped their way...
BOTH sides shredded!!
These mounts use G8 bolts thru the mounts and it has pulled them apart with no problem... so obviously the 460 didn't make it into the F350 today. Will be Tuesday before I can get mounts, so other than polishing the valve covers back out, I am at a stop until then. Anyways, on with the rest of the pics for today....
Ready to come out of the F250
There's just something about a Big Block!!
Especially when it has goodies like these on it
Out and on the floor waiting for some polish on the valve covers and new motor mounts so it can head for its new home!
The F250, now retired and ready for parting out or ???
Side by side with the old and the new
Anyways, thats all for now until I get the motor mount issue straightened out.

LOL!!! Then you really don't want to look at tonight's picture update, as I got the motor installed today (as well as ordered some more goodies from Summit!)

Ok Travis, here's your truck ****!! LOL
Decided yesterday to see about getting the motor mounts back working, rather than order new ones in at $130 a pair. Did some figuring and broke out the drill press... four holes later, both the mounts now have G8 studs mounted thru them. Two 1/2, and tow 3/8 inch. Welded the studs into the plate on the one side, and then put nuts on the other side and pulled them down "snug" not tight, and then added a weld to them to keep them there. Ground down the welds on the stud side on the plate. This should keep them from pulling apart when I romp on it, yet will still allow the rubber to act as an isolator. Once that was done, mounted them back on the block and then into the hole it went.
Stud repair on outer plate
Inner plate
Studs welded in place
Nuts in place, ready to grind the welds and bolt on
Cleaned up, and on the hoist, ready to head for her new home
Up, up, and away
Aiming for her new home
Into the hole
Almost there
Lining the mounts up into the towers
Her new home
Looks much better than a tired 5.8
Beefy!!!
Now to wait for UPS to get here with my new AN fittings from Summit tomorrow, and start hooking up all the small stuff again (headers, T-case, driveshafts, etc) and then start sorting out the wiring to get the Mallory box, etc up and running. Hopefully be able to get time enough this week to do all that and get her fired up this week!
