rough idle

I have a 1996 F250 diesel that just started idling very poorly. I just had the camshaft position sensor replaced last week and it was driving fine until yesterday. It drives fine at normal driving speeds, 20mph on up, but when you are driving slowly or come to a complete stop, the whole truck shakes and sounds like its going to shut off. Any ideas?

Is the oil level up and recently changed?? Have you checked the fuel pressure?

I have a mechanic who I usually take vehicles to, but I took the truck to the Ford dealership this time because it was closer to me than my mechanic. They told me the problem was with the injectors and that the truck was only running on 4 cylinders. They said they would start by replacing both wiring harnesses and the gaskets ($420) and if that didn't solve the issue replace the injectors ($1100). I'm not a mechanic, but $1600 seems incredibly expensive to me. I plan on taking it to my mechanic for a second quote, but does Ford's quote seem realistic?

Yes, but get the truck away from Ford as you can do the work yourself for much less.

Yes, check the idm, anyone with a super duty or another obs you can borrow their idm and try it? Sounds like maybe the idm is shutting down a bank. First I'd check the vc harnesses and then the idm. Most likely not the injectors imo.

The harnesses under the valve covers are pretty common. You should be able to get a kit with all of it for a decent price. I had to replace one side on mine last year. Definately stay away from the dealership.
