Glad someone bumped this post as I forgot about that hidden port. I use 32GB (Fat32) stick in the dash port. Select Music Library, then select Explore USB which will give you artists, albums, generes, playlists. You can also give voice commands to play whatever. You can also organize your music by creating folders on the flash.

I've stopped using the flash drive and am now using my phone via bluetooth. I uploaded all my mp3's to Google Play Music and stream them through my Android phone's Play Music app. Makes it easy to create playlist and or shuffle the music. This method also doesn't require me to plug the flash drive into the computer every time I want to add music.

no, and in fact there is a disadvantage to using an ipod. They have a battery and their own operating system and sometimes lock up or cause other problems when the battery dies and have to be reset. A memory stick is 1000 times better and much cheaper. sync essentials turns your $300 ipod into a $6 memory stick anyway because it takes control and you cant even use the ipod to select music.

This is exactly what I did. Works great.
I'm pretty sure it needs to be FAT32 and it will play the songs in alphabetical order although I think there is a way to make a playlist.

oh yea, they will try hard, lol! I have unlimited through verizon but I live in a very rural area and it doesnt work here. I have att also which has a tower right by my house and works great here but their network sucks everywhere else. I travel a lot and am on my phone a lot and sometimes it works great and othertimes its so slow its unusable. they arent very reliable for me anywhere except where i live and i suspect thats only because there is only about 10 people using the tower, they drop off network speed hard and fast when u hit population. verizon works great everywhere except my house though, lol! gotta keep old phone or buy new phone full price to keep unlimited data.

I should have mentioned that you have the option to have the Play Music app download all the music (or certain playlist) to your phone so you don't have to stream it. Obviously you would do this while on wifi.
