Lost power and won't rev above 2500rpm

Me too...Not able to rev engine above 2300-2400rpm
10/23/10
Experienced the same problem today with my 2008 f450. Not able to rev engine above 2300-2400rpm (all forward gears and neutral, tow/haul & normal modes). Was pulling a 18000 lb 5th wheel through northwestern CA (steep grades) when problem occurred. I'm sidelined until Monday when the local Ford dealer will reawaken. Only 16K miles on the truck. Thanks to this thread I'll be better informed when I talk to the service writer.
One other issue... I'm occasionally experiencing a loud whirling noise from the engine. The noise comes and goes. Doesn't seem to be related to rpm, gear, speed or load. I thought it might be related to an engine environmental control function. One web site mentioned a cracked “up” pipe as responsible. Another said the whirling noise was coming from the fan because of low coolant levels causing the EOT and ETC to over-rev the fan( my engine coolant levels and temperatures appear normal). Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Mine will come on at about 220F. I can notice sometimes when the fan starts to engage that my water temp guage will move just to the right of center at this point.
Does not take long and then you are back down to around 210F and it disengages.
Sounds like you went into limp mode as well. Is the truck running normal now? If so then you may have just maxed out your EGT's and the truck was limiting to cool it down.
Ensure all fluids are good.

Loud whirling or airplane sounds you be your clutch fan engaging. It is doing it job, don't worry.

Took it in the shop this morning. After sitting for 24 hours it still won't rev beyond 2400 rpm. and that's after freezing overnight temps. And on the way to the shop the check engine light came on. All the fluids are good. I should hear something from the shop tomorrow.

because parts and labor are not cheep.
its about a 35 hour job to rebuild a complete fuel system in a 6.4
8 injector, a high side pump, removing and cleaning a tank. replacement of a few fuel lines, as well as assorted gaskets and seals. and cleaning the rest of the system. new fuel filters etc.

Did you happen to see white smoke? And was the truck not reving up or was it shaking and missing badly? just asking since you said it was intermittant and raining. Sounded like a CAC which if it hasn't been changed is subject to cause a lot of misfiring and vibrations in wet conditions.
