Interior LED Lighting

A popular, yet inexpensive mod is to swap out the old incandescent cabin interior light bulbs in favor of modern LED lighting. LED bulbs emit a much whiter and brighter light output that can really freshen up the interior of your truck. Installation does not get much easier than this as it only takes approximately 5-10 minutes to swap out your old bulbs. LED interior lighting kits can be had for less than $50.

Interior Trim Painting/Coating

A fun mod for many owners is to paint or coat a number of their truck's interior trim pieces to give it a custom look. Painting pieces such as the bezel, vent surrounds, and center console can really make your interior pop. Some choose to coordinate the interior paint with the truck's exterior color; however, some individuals have also used water transfer printing from places like Hydro Dip to provide various camouflage or carbon fiber designs to the trim pieces. This mod can be completed for between $10 to $100.

Brake Caliper/Drum Paint

The brake calipers and rotors are easily visible through most factory-fitted Ford Truck wheels, but this is especially true if your truck has a set of aftermarket wheels installed. Over time, the calipers, rotor hats, and drums (for older models) can become rusty and unsightly. A quick coating of high-temp brake caliper paint can restore or even enhance the look of these brake components for as little as $30 to $50 bucks and an hour or two of your time.

Tailgate Lock

Tailgates are being stolen off of pickup trucks at an alarming rate, so if you do not already have some sort of anti-theft device on your tailgate, it is probably a good idea to get one. A simple lock, such as those offered by McGard, neatly locks around the tailgate hinge with a special tool that will prevent a thief from lifting it right off of the truck. These locks can be had for $10 to $20 and install within minutes.

Gotts Mod

The "Gotts Mod" air intake modification is an inexpensive way of altering the air intake on various Ford F-series trucks to route more cool air into the intake system. Although many cold air systems available on the market advertise increased performance, many of them suck hot air straight from inside the engine bay.  The Gotts Mod uses $15 to $20 worth of materials that can be found at any local hardware store to help route cool air from outside of the truck into the airbox. Not only is this a cheap and effective modification, but your truck can be returned to stock at any time if needed.

Leveling Kit

When asked about one of the best bang for the buck mods, Ford Truck owners often mention a suspension leveling kit that can be had for about $50 to $100. For years, trucks have come with a significant front to back rake, and those not looking to spend big money on suspension upgrades have gone the route either lowering the rear axle and inch or two to match the front ride height or slightly raising the front-end to give the truck a level look. It is important to note that by leveling the front of most trucks with 2" inch spacers, larger and more aggressive tire & wheel combos can be used.

Shorty Antenna

The long factory wire coat hanger of a radio antenna has been known to snag trees and slap the garage door framing of thousands of truck owners nationwide. A cure for these issues can come via a shorty or mid-length radio antenna, which can be had for as little as $10. Most owners really like the cleaner look of the shorter antennas and notice little to no difference in radio reception, especially in dense urban areas with plenty of radio stations available.

Stealth Bulbs

A great way to clean up the look of the front of your truck on the cheap is to install a set of stealth turn signal bulbs. The factory turn signal bulbs are amber in color, and when placed in the chrome headlight housing, give an egg yolk look. Stealth bulbs have a chrome coating that allows them to be silver when off and amber when flashing, thus providing a nice and clear headlight lens. Expect to spend $25 to $40 on a set of stealth bulbs.
