Don't Let the Coin Holder Space Go to Waste

Ford truck enthusiasts agree that the vertical coin holder in their trucks is a pretty useless feature. On 4x4 models, this space is where the 4x4 switch is kept, but for trucks without 4x4, it’s clear the potential usage of this space wasn’t very thought out. Here are seven ways to make better use of the coin holder if you haven’t got a 4x4 switch there.

1. Push Button Start

You may have to do some trimming once you find a fitting that will hold the push button securely in place, and complete some wiring to get it set up, but this is a worthwhile weekend project that will make much for better usage of the space.

2. Transmission Temp Gauge or Volt Meter

If you tow loads often, then a transmission temperature gauge is a convenient gadget to have right there in your field of vision while driving. Similarly, you can find volt meters that will fit perfectly into the coin holder hole. To supply power, you’ll need to run a wire to the battery.

3. Custom Light Switches

If you’re nifty, you can fashion a holder to house light switches for off-roading or other custom lights you add to your truck.

4. Mute Switch for Radar Detector

If you’ve got a radar detector, you can install a mute switch or button for it in place of the coin holder. Having this switch in close proximity to where your hands already are while driving will make muting the detector more convenient.

Don’t settle for simply throwing your expensive smartphone in the cup holder or in the center console. Attach a belt clip or insert a cell phone mount into the coin holder instead. Your phone will look better secured and will be easier to access this way.
