Interior upgrades help personalize a vehicle to your desired looks and functionality. Besides, you have to look at the inside, so why not make it desirable? From lights to gauges, there are a number of options that will enhance your vehicle's looks and functionality. In this article we focus on three upgrades, LED lighting, installing an ipad in the dash, and upgrading the stereo for your Ford F-150 or Super Duty.

Upgrading your lights to LEDs has many advantages including looks, choice of light color, better lighting, and less battery use than filament or halogen bulbs. It is best to buy premade LEDs as they control the current and dimming of the light better than using a combination of LED and resistors. Without getting into an electrical engineering lesson, suffice it to say that each color LED settles at a different voltage while the maximum current is 20 MA. Therefore, constant current source integrated circuits are used to control LEDs for optimal brightness and lifetime extension instead of resistors. From there, it gets a little too involved for the do it yourselfer who lacks electronics knowledge.

Many sources offer drop in replacement LEDs that fit in the existing sockets. In some cases such as multi switches and instrument panels, you have to remove a circuit board and resolder LEDs in place of the existing bulbs. As a result, the job covers a large range of complexity from simply removing the lens and replacing the bulb, to pulling a number of panels to get to the instrument panel. See this website for a descriptive tutorial of the details involved.

Apple iPad functionality has advanced to a point where inserting an iPad into your dash extends your vehicle’s intelligence. This can be accomplished in a few hours by removing the console, display side panels, and the main panel itself. Inserting an Ipad into your dash to replace your display is documented on youtube.

The nice thing about this setup is that you retain the steering wheel controls. This is important because the less you take your hands off the wheel the safer your driving will be.

Installing a stereo can improve sound and enhance versatility. In older vehicles, adding a sound system upgrade often adds the ability to source music via USB and even memory interfaces; features that older systems lack.

Most stereo upgrades have wiring adapters for a seamless install. For stereos as well as speakers, the upgrade is as easy as pulling a few panels and unscrewing mounts. These upgrades can be performed in a few hours.
