Ford F-150/F-250: Fog Light Reviews

Here is a review of the most popular fog light brands for your Ford F-150 or F-250 Super Duty.

By Pizzaman711 - November 24, 2014

This article applies to the Ford F-150 (2004-2014) and F-250 Super Duty (2005-2014).

New fog light housings can both improve the look of your F-150 or F-250 Super Duty truck and give you better performance when driving at night. Fog lights are useful to help light up the corners of the road so you can see better off to the side, which means being able to spot that deer before it runs into your truck. Custom fit fog lights could require a little work to install. You may need to cut the existing fog light hole a little wider to fit them. Direct fit lights, on the other hand, are self explanatory; they fit smoothly and easily.

Pro Tip

A bulb with a yellowish tint will provide the best performance on foggy nights and other poor weather conditions. You can buy different kinds of bulbs for your fog light assembly depending on the look you're searching for. Your fog light assembly will come with instructions on the recommended brands and models.

There are many fog light assembly brands for sale on Ebay, such as Hella and Winjet. They are all made by the same manufacturer and are essentially identical products. They are less popular than the other lights compared here; however, they have been known to be very reliable. These are highly recommended for those who are willing to do the install. You’ll have to customize the bracket per your application, but beyond that it’s as simple as hooking up all the necessary wires. These fog lights are great not only for their light output, but also for their relatively low price of $75-$100 for a set and their high availability. Recommended if you are looking for an aftermarket look.

Depo

Price - $70

Fitment - Direct Fit

Bulb - OEM Bulb

From fit to finish, the Depo brand makes some of the best replacement lights for vehicles. These lights not only look great compared to OEM, but will also retain all the factory mounting, which means they’re a simple swap then plug and play. On top of this, most of the time the Depo lights will also include a replacement fog light wiring harness so you don’t have to reuse your old worn out one. These will run you about half of the cost of ordering from the dealership. Recommended if you are looking for an OEM look.

Spyder

Price - $100

Fitment - Custom

Bulb - OEM

These are sub-par at best. The only thing that can be considered good about them is the look, and even that is entirely dependent on individual preference. Quality control on these is non-existent; even Spyder will admit to them not fitting properly in vehicles if you give them a call and ask why they don’t fit. The materials used are also pretty low quality; they could last you a few years or a few days. Overall, it’s a big risk buying these due to the high chance of them not even fitting properly to be able to install them. Recommended if you prefer looks over quality.

TYC

Price - $30

Fitment - Direct Fit

Bulb - OEM

Similar to the Depo brand fog lights, TYC offers OEM style replacements. TYC aren't very popular replacements; however, these are a good choice considering the price. Bad reviews of fitment or quality are hard to find. In comparison to Depo lenses, which look slightly clearer, these have a little more haze to them like the OEM fog lights. Recommended if you are looking for good quality for less money.
