THEFT light not blinking in new gauge cluster

I pulled a gauge cluster from a 2002 Mazda truck to put on my 2001 Ranger XLT and assumed they were the exact same until I saw there was 1 resistor missing from factory on the back. I was hoping it was just design changes but now my THEFT light doesn’t work. Can I just solder the resistor onto this one or will I have to live without PATS? I really don’t want my truck to be stolen.

This gauge cluster is missing the 220ohm resistor to the right of the anti theft led.

Does the engine start? If it does, try a wrong key and see if the anti-theft part is working. You might have PATS but no light.

I don't see what you would solder to. There's no trace of a trace.

Shoot, my truck came with only 1 key I’ve been meaning to get another but haven’t since I’ve heard you need at least 2 keys to program to PATS system. Yes it starts and drives like normal. I guess this will be a good time to get another one cut and see if I still have PATS or if it’s just a simple LED. If not, sucks for me. Thanks!

I've seen that some PATS lights are on the dash, not in the cluster. Maybe you got one of those.

Good luck, interested in what you find out.

Which engine? Oddly enough, the early 2001 2.5L models didn’t have PATS. The 2.3 Duratec and both v6 models actually did.

Do you even have a chipped key?

Thanks guys I got another key cut at the hardware store and it won’t crank over with that key. Only starts and drives with my chipped key. The THEFT light hasn’t popped up through any of that which is the only thing that isn’t working in the cluster which I’m fine with as long as the PATS is working. I tried both LEDs but I think unless I switch the plastic backing with the extra resistor on it it won’t work, it seems if I want to ill have to completely disassemble the instrument cluster from the front inward to pop out those 19 clips. I don’t think it’s worth the time or the risk. I doubt that LED would stop anyone from breaking into my vehicle anyway.
