I am working on my 96 build. I have AFR 165 heads. I was porting my lower intake today to match the heads. Unfortunately the carbide bit slipped and put a health gouge in the mating surface of the intake. It is toast. I am looking around local for a lower and have found a few explorer upper and lower. I have tried everything including searching different forums for an efi 302 that has explorer/gt40 upper and lower intake to do some research. I know the stock truck intake produces the best low end torque but I have read the explorer provides better top end and still give decent low end torque. Here is what I am looking for. 1. For those who have made the swap, how did you route everything? I have ford performance valve covers. Will the explorer intake clear the taller covers? I have found a few that have the upper, lower, throttle body, and elbow. The air intake hose will have to be routed differently as well. Any advice? I am going to go to the JY on Tuesday to see if they have a stock lower. The photo is of one I found on marketplace but it is an explorer upper and lower
I cannot answer that question but I have AFR Renegade 185 stud mount heads. I was going to use the hybrid truck 5.0L upper/ 5.8L lower and it wouldn’t clear the taller cable covers.
My main concern is how to route the air intake and throttle cable. Also the tab tad solenoids are on the driver side. The gt40 upper overlaps the driver vs the f150 stock upper is on the passenger side.

Thats interesting, all the ones I saw on explorers in JYs had it going over the passenger side. I know you can flip the upper to opposite sides.
as for the intake tubes, definitely going to be a custom since it uses a single bore throttle body.
