Man I forgot what a pain in the pants doing rear brakes on these is.
Is there a complete rear disc brake kit with an e brake? I know there was something with an Eldorado or Toronado E brake set up a long time ago I think. Anyway, What rear disc set up are you running and how do you like it?
this is for a 78 F250 4x4 SC work truck, Dana 60 rear.
thanks

I have a 75 f250, 2x, with a D60 rear, and about 10 years ago I converted to rear disks. I tried two types of the El Dorado calipers with the p. brake. Neither of them could I get the p. brake to work well enough to keep the truck from rolling in a slightly graded p. lot. Believe me, I tried everything. I ended up with a set of calipers from a 75 chevy truck front. I found that even with the 4x disks, my stopping power was not satisfying, so I installed hydroboost set up off a SuperDuty, pump and master, and an adjustable front/rear bias valve. It has worked fantastically well for all this time. It stops on a dime, rain or shine. In all that time I have not had a single brake issue. However, now and then I do miss the p. brake. There is a company, TSM I believe, that has new El Do style calipers for sale (pricey). One guy on the forum swore by them. I don't buy it though since I've tried two sets of the same style calipers.
I have been thinking about installing a rear end out of a SD that has both disks and the small drums for the p. brake, but not quite ready to take that plunge. Good luck

Being a 4x4, there is always the mechanical transfer case brake. I researched them a long time ago but never purchased. I also run 4 wheel disc w/o an e-brake.

Are you just hoping to avoid the rebuild, and would rather throw a kit on there? Or is the stopping power not what you’d like? Both?
I know it’s not what you’re asking, but why not just upgrade your front brake pads and see how that goes for stopping power?
Some of this stuff is getting tougher to find, so I’ll be forced to upgrade at some point, but there’s a lot to be said for keeping it simple.
Side road:
My trucks the same set up as yours, and I smoked my rear pads and a wheel cylinder rubber last year being stupid and leaving the parking brake on for a few Hwy miles. I ended up just having a local shop rebuild them, mostly cause I was on a time crunch. I’d considered doing an upgrade, but had concerns about the proportioning and didn’t want it to take the extra time. (Dead end spur off the side road: there’s now a parking brake alarm interlocked to the clutch pedal and parking brake pedal)
While the rears aren’t stopping it like a corvette, with ok front pads and the stock style booster, it stops decent for a 50 year old 6500# truck. Also keeping in mind the fronts do most of the work, the meh pads are squealers when warm, but I’ve got a new “upgraded” set of pads to throw on and bed in this summer. Leaving stock style discs for now.
There is no 'easy' way to get disks in the rear with a p. brake. Either you swap in a rear end with disks and p.brake drum, or you install double calipers on each side, one for braking and one for parking, and that would require making sure of the fit around/over the rotor, and having a special bracket made to hold two calipers.
