1972 F250 Rear Hub Removal

Good day...I am looking to verify that the rear axle nut on my F250 is indeed a 2-9/16" dia. before I dive into replacing the brakes. Can anyone verify for me? Thank you...

I cant verify that even though I have recently done my rear drum brakes. I didnt have a socket for mine but it already had the classic hammer and screw driver or chisel gashes in it.

Yes, I was afraid of that happening here on mine. Guess I just have to open her up and check to make sure this is the "rounded" nut holding it in as opposed to a nut that has 4 slots on it where a "special" tool is used to take the nut off. I was not aware of this slotted nut just the rounded nut bevause my dad had a 76 with the rounded nut. Wish I had that tool he used. Thanks anyways for the information.

I thought I might have a picture of it but I dont. Only a before and after pic of the brakes. It was a big hex nut though.

Just a follow up here. I just pulled the outer inspection cover with the 6 hex nuts and it is in fact the rounded axel nut. Which is okay because Summit has that in stock. Thanks for the assist. Now just waiting on the tools and all the brake parts. Way too much fun...lol. Cheers.

Just FYI: AutoZone has the "axle bearing socket" in stock.

Notice in the pic (click on it twice to enlarge it) that there are TWO locking nuts (4252) per side with the nut lock washer (1124) in between.

The nut lock washer has 6 tabs. 3 tabs are bent over onto the inner nut, 3 tabs are bent over onto the outer nut to retain these nuts in place.

1969 F250 from serial number F30,001, 1970/79 F250: B6Y-1124-A .. Lock Nut Washer 2 15/16" O.D. x 2 1/32" I.D. // B6Y-4252-A .. Lock Nut - 2" -16 thread - 2 9/16" hex.

1956/69 F250, 1969 F250 before serial number F30,001 use a different lock nut washer, different lock nuts and a different axle shaft.
