C6 to AOD

C6 to AOD
Hey guys I am thinking about picking up a used AOD out of a TBird. I currently have a C6 but doing the math my RPM will be 3k at 75 MPH and I sure would like having that overdrive gear.
I have been doing some reading about these swaps but I haven't seen much about the driveshaft part of it. Some people say that theirs was a direct bolt in with no issues and off to the races. Others say they had issues with pinion angle.
I currently have a dana 44 in the truck with a 9 inch ready to go in its place.
So I guess I should ask a question at this point,
Will I need to shorten or lengthen my driveshaft for this swap? I have a 78 F100 SWB
Can I use my existing tranny lines to connect to my radiator? If not which lines would I need? Will I need to run a separate cooler?
The flex plate I have has been balanced for my F4TE 351w will I be able to use that with my AOD or will I need to have a different one balanced?
Can I use my existing block plate or is there a specific one to use for the AOD?
I am sure I will have more questions. Thanks guys

The below comments were typed in error because I read C-6 to EOD. And he typed C-6 to AOD. But I will leave it here for all to read. lol
More importantly will you be able to get the electronic controls (computer, wiring harness, other relevant elec parts and pieces ect)... needed to run that EOD, from the T-Bird?. I am under the understanding that is has some electronic/computer control systems that need to be in place with it. And you will need to get it wired properly.
I know a FTE member that had a none turbo 80/90 IDI diesel put in his 4wd 79 and the EOD transmission. But did not get all the pieces and parts off the newer doner truck. So his one option is to buy a $700 stand alone transmission control module. OUCH.

If you had not quoted me I could of just edited my #2 and #4 post and pulled a slicky. lol But I figured the info might help someone going from a C-6 to an E4OD. You know, the one you need the computer for. lol X2.
Sorry I do not have any experience with that trans swap. Big help I am huh? I did edit my response a bit.

I too was thinking your way about doing an AOD. A 4R will get you down to 2200 rpm at 80 miles per hr. I ended going with a 4r70w in favor of strength, technology upgrades, and better Widegear ratios with my 3.25 rear gears .The Trans computer from us shift and rebuilt 4r was roughly a grand total for my setup. Also in stock form an 01 4R70 will handle 500 HP+. If you have a two piece drive shaft you will have to shorten and possibly balance them since the AOD/4R is longer. Since my truck is a LWB I got lucky with only new slip yoke and u joint. The biggest dilemma for your AOD is the TV cable and you will need a Lokar Shift linkage kit as well as Lokar TV cable kit. If the TV cable is not setup properly you will cook your trans in less then 100 miles. You did not say that you had a 2wd or 4WD. I am not sure how a 2wd drive tail shaft can be converted to a 4WD without a complete rebuild. Since the AOD came out of a lighter smaller car it "may" not last as long as ones made for trucks. You will not be able to use your original cooling lines as is. You could combine rubber lines with hard lines to save money but you are better off making custom lines with a kit and a double flare tool. Trust me, it looks better and less chance of failure. No you don't need to run a cooler but they are cheap and worth protecting your investment as well as keeping you from redoing all that work. Depending on your setup you may also need a fill tube and dipstick. I got lucky the mustang one worked for me.
I will post a link of someone else on here who I used partially to do my swap.

And here is a different controller and a bit of trans info, just in case you want to do an E4OD swap. Always nice to have options.
