2005 5.4 F150 P1233 code still present after FPDM replacement.

One morning my truck wouldn’t start after 3 attempts. Took the wife’s car to work as it was a Saturday and she works at a school. I already told her it was the FPDM as the day before my truck randomly shook so bad I got out of it and popped the hood and saw the intake shaking; walked to the back of the truck and saw the exhaust shaking. Shut the truck off and started it again. Zero issues heading home at the time. No CEL thrown at all. Called my wife at work and asked if she’d lower the spare tire and check out the FPDM. She removed it and had a hard time doing so; it was corroded so bad that it split in half. After work, I got home and she was sitting on the back of the trucks tailgate waiting for me to go to Orielly’s and get the part she had called about. I went there and got it; it was a Dorman one with updated spacers. Got under the truck and installed it. I know she did all the hard work for me removing the old one. Truck fired up first attempt. Now, months later, I’ve tried everything I could think of to remove the “p1233” code that remains present in the vehicle. I’ve done a battery disconnect procedure with a jumper cable and let it sit for hours, hit the fuel pump reset switch off the passengers side fuse box (which is just about impossible to push down at any angle), and lastly checked all my fuses. I’ll disconnect the battery and drain all the power from the capacitors and I won’t throw the code with my reader but after one drive, the code will return. Any idea what I should do?

It could be an issue with using an aftermarket FPDM. The FPDM might be designed for use on multiple models and might not be an exact OEM replacement.

You're likely SOL now as far as returning it since it's been so long. You could try and find a cheap used one on eBay to swap in just to see if the code goes away. The code and CEL will be an issue if you ever go to sell the truck.

BTW, kudos to your wife for her abilities!

Yes, my wife is very mechanically inclined; you should see her with power tools! She is very intelligent and extremely handy. I’m glad I took the time this morning to post this thread. This seemed to be very interesting to me because I spent a solid amount of time out in the truck going over different variables about this code. Thanks for all your input.

I have the 05 5.4 and dorman fpdm

I did have intermittent shutdown after replacing it . I cleaned all terminals no luck re- insatlled old good one the same happened. The gasket in the connector had rolled and after I pulled it out no more problems that was many years ago . Never put a gasket back in . Has run thru salt water and all during hurricanes . Perhaps you may have a bad one .

Also my fuel mileage has seriously averaged to half its norm. I knew it was from the p1233 code. Perfect running truck. Phenomenal performance. Running lean! Definitely buying the Ford FPDM right now online. My fuses looked good. One thing though that’s bothering me... the relay. How do I know if it’s the relay? Swap relays out?

The MPGs can off simply because the CEL is on. When the CEL is on the ECM runs on the factory presets and not the learned driving conditions. Swapping the relay for a known good one is the easiest first step to try.

Yes. And the fuel pump itself. Well, the fuel pump failed, and since it was under warranty, the dealer replaced it. Then, it failed a second time and I told them do it again and get the "standoff" replacement FPDM as shown on the sticky in these forums because I was certain they did not check it like I asked the first time. They told me "the ground was good" the first time. So I wanted to see the part before they installed it. If it was not for the warranty, I would be doing this myself, but the warranty has already paid for itself and then some.

That's fortunate because in my case any time I've ever needed a warranty it was expired. I never get extended warranties anymore for this very reason and have saved a lot of money.

With warranties selling for thousands of dollars.......it's hard to justify buying them. Most people never get thousands of dollars of work out of their warranties. If I had spent thousands of dollars for an extended warranty, that warranty would have expired by now, and the money would have been wasted.

P1233 code gone after removing grey rubber gasket out of the inside of the wiring harness; Redfishtd called it. Dorman part now works as designed, zero codes on vehicle. Thank you!
