Talk to me about ball joints.....

The time has come to replace the ball joints on my truck (4WD Dually). I will be using Rockauto.com as that's the quickest & easiest way to get them, (I'm in the UK.) Prices vary considerably, I've always believed that you get what you pay for & I'm thinking of going for the Proforged premium quality that are greasable. Thoughts or experience please.
Also anything else that might need replacing at the same time? Axle/hub seals etc?

So you would rather get a crappy product because it easy to get ?

Seems to me with the amount of labor required to do ball joints you would want the best parts available even if it was a bit of a hassle to get them.

anyhow, time and time again Spicer balljoints are the gold standard, it is who built the axle and it’s components to begin with and who still makes the best replacement parts in the market.

Ventures is a fantastic supplier, helpful, knowledgeable and only sells the very best parts. No save a buck china crap that quickly fails.

Thanks, I don't know where the Proforged units are made but in my experience it seems that most of the rubbish stuff comes from China, but so does some of the best....
In China they make stuff to the price that the brand wants to pay......
My truck has only 90k KM's & the joints are shot, I was hoping that a greasable joint would be an improvement over the original?
I see that Venture have an eBay shop & they ship to the UK too so that's an option.

Ball joints on these trucks are good for 75,000

yes China makes some great products and in fact some of the best quality now comes from China but so far nobody has beat a Spicer ball joint or ujoint unless you get into the $300+ speciality race parts.

Fwiw, I say China but in reality most of the automotive forgings are coming out of India,

Well if you took a look on Rockauto, you'd find they sell spicer products.
They actually do sell good products if you know what youre looking for.

Id buy from rock auto if it meant hassle free buying overseas

Isn't the XRF all the rage now?

The Spicer/Dana kit 2020314 comes with all the seals, that's what I used.

On edit: you'll also need to buy or make the seal installation tool.

Yes, I just found that kit & ordered it, I have a fair selection of "seal installation" tools, I also have a friend with a lathe!

Spicers lasted less than 30k on my truck (purchased from Venture). I installed XRF last summer and they're doing fine so far as one would hope.

I have also invested in the tools for the job, if the Spicer joints don't last, at least I will have an easier job next time around !

I have installed Spicer and Moog ball joints and both only went about 40K each +/- before needing replaced, tried XRF's and have well over 100K on them with no issues. 2000 F250 ext cab 4x4 7.3/6spd @ 332K miles

Installed and torqued correctly you should get at least 75k out of them. I have seen them wasted in 10k when installed incorrectly.
With 37”s on my trucks I have gone 90k

That what made it so frustrating only getting to what mileage they had to be replaced at, running 99% hwy miles and 285/75/16 tires, torqued everything to spec same as the XRF's and the XRF's have given more than double the mileage.
