Upgrades to E4OD while on the bench.

Ok, I have my E4OD out of my 97 7.3 4x4, out, torn down, inspected. Master overhaul kit bought. Bushing kit bought. Thrust washer kit bought. This is not going to be a hot rod, or pull much more than a boat. Going to most likely get a transgo tugger kit, and shift correction kit. What are some reasonable upgrades while I am in here? I know I will hear billet multi vane TC, I might, but don't know that it's necessary FCC or my application?

If budget permits, a low stall PI converter. You probably do not need a triple clutch unless realistically plan big torque. I would rather have a single clutch PI unit than a cheap *** triple clutch.

Agreed on Tugger kit, I use lots of Transgo kits. Spend money on good clutches. I like Alto High Energy. Raybestos tans work well too. Kolene treated steels are nice too. Most of the planet upgrades are pretty budget friendy.

Consider a new 'MLPS' while out. Probably I would go Motorcraft only.

Really, fresh clutches and hydraulic integrity back will make a world of difference with a shift kit and good converter. Start modest on separater plate holes, you can always go bigger!

X2 on the low stall converter. I wouldn't install a E4OD/4R100 behind a 7.3 without a lower stall converter, it will pull much better.

I am planning on getting the Superior shift correction kit. Is that the one you are taking about. It's about 40 bucks I think.

MLPS is probably a cheap investment. Is "PI" a brand?

I already have all raybestos frictions, all tan except 2nd, they are black.

PI = Precision Industries, One of the most expensive options, you can get other good low stall converters for much less.
Converters ? Precision Industries

One other thing, I do have a 2000 model 4R100, I can rob parts from. If there are any upgrades I can steal out of it. Bell housing is busted on it. So, it's a parts tranny. Any suggestions? Pump is cracked on my E4OD. Will a 4R100 pump replace it? Who ever installed this tranny last, didn't seat the TC properly. That's the reason for the rebuild. TC is new, but it galled up the sealing surface.. Wish I could figure out what kind of tc it is, and possibly save it. Its possibly a good one. Just a crappy seal.

FYI if you have a chip send it back for a re-burn and have trans tuning redone to avoid hard shifts. Most trans tunes are done for a stock trans and have shift firmness bumped up. That plus shift kit = hard shifts

no chip for now. Going stay stock on the programming for now. This truck was dead when I bought it. I want to build a little trust in it, before I go that route.

Jimmy’s videos helped me a ton. I borrowed a transmission jack from work. IMO a number 1 must. Next important thing is a cheap organizer box from a hardware store and zip ties. Do not throw anything away. If your are going to mix and match transmissions get 2 different colors of paint markers, you know the kind you have to push down on for them to work and color codes each part according to transmission. If you do swap parts- check original part# to the part# being used. Good luck. I’ve only done one but i tore it down once because I had to and three other times to check myself, all before I installed it.
